I have the upgraded Satchet, so I need to try this now. poo poo.

His criticisms for the open world part aren't entirely unfounded, but I feel he neglects to talk about how the map will change a couple of times throughout the adventure, or that the geographically close map design is reminiscent of the first Nier and also of Dark Souls, which featured a fairly densely stacked world that was more or less geographically sensible within itself.

Also people hate on these sidequests! What gives? Did they not play the first game? The first Nier's sidequests are legit pretty bad, mostly generic with a handful of really good ones here and there (and the banter was great of course) but this game's got sidequests that actually tie into the main plot, and most of them involve performing a specific task or accomplishing a goal, not just "kill x wolves" and whatnot. Hell, the ones that tasked me to get materials and stuff tended to be solved right away, since you can take quests across the various paths, which actually takes the NG+ style and puts it to good use. I'd say this game's sidequests are far more thematically interesting than a majority of its contemporaries.

Is there a particular trick to beating Speed Star's third race? Am I going to just have to wait til I'm fully-saturated on go-faster chips and Speed Salves?

I would rather have dull quests and good banter, like Nier/Drak3, then Automatas good quests dull banter, however I give Automata a complete pass with this because as we know, there is a significant reason why Operators/2B do not banter with, and are standoffish bitches to 9S.

The reason YoRHa acts all awkward/contradictory around each other isn't answered till the very last conversation of the game. So it's understandable, and even likely, to think the story/characters are just weird or random or poorly written, or just lack 'fun'. It pays off in the end though, assuming you get there.

I told you that story so I could tell you this one...
Wow, what a loving trip. Taro Yoko continues to surprise me, even after I think I know all of his tricks. I've completed Endings A-E. Still need to upgrade everything, complete all the miniquests, and fight the superbosses. I have a lot of thoughts about the game, but I'm just going to posit a few questions and discussion points off the top of my head right now:

1. I'm not sure if I fully understood why info on Project Gestalt/Popola's Library was in the Tower. I guess the machines knew that humanity was extinct since they set up YoRHa, and by extension, the Council of Humanity, to perpetuate their endless existential war. But I'm not sure what they mean about the machine's containing the "ghost of humanity".

2. I thought the way A2 defeated the Red Girls was great and super clever. But I'm not sure if they were still alive after that? Were they the one's piloting the crab robot at the end? Ending D seems to suggest they're still alive and preparing to launch themselves into space. Was this their plan all along, or did they only decide that after the final battle? I have a few ideas, but I'd like to hear someone else's interpretation on their rationale.

3. What happens if 9S chooses to go to space with the Red Girls in Ending D? I turned them down in my playthrough. Would that prevent his consciousness from being reassembled in Ending E?

4. Were Adam and Eve (and their subsequent defeat) part of the Red Girls' plan? So they didn't have full control of the network, I assume.

5. I suppose the "Romeos and Juliets" play you see in the Amusement is foreshadowing. Really, really good foreshadowing. It mirrors the cycle of 2B killing 9S throughout their time together, and 9S's battle against the 2B copies in the Tower. It's also predictive of the in-fighting between the Red Girls.

6. What was up with the plant stuff? Pod 042 notes that the Machine Core is structured after a plant cell, and Adam says that his creators were "like plants". I expected that to pay off somehow, but I'm not quite sure what to make of it. What do you guys think?

Also, where the gently caress Project Gestalt Report 5?

Seemed to be the machines arriving at some kind of enlightenment through the fusion of confucianism and taoism but I don't know remotely enough about either to really say. Pretty tough to follow everything that's happening in that final sequence. What the red girls and Ko-Shi and Ro-Shi say makes me think they changed their minds at the very end, but then I'm not sure what the collection units were actually for.

Guess it's nice that ending E is big good feels because I have almost no idea what was happening at the end of the story.

Messing around with sidequests I missed, and mopping up chests and weapons that I have yet to find, and I finally found out how to get to the guy who upgrades your weapons to level 4, and feel a bit stupid for not figuring it out sooner. Now it's just buying all the other stuff that's for sale all throughout the game, and upgrading stuff when I can as I slowly build up to 100% completion. Here's a question: what's the deal with Emil's shop? Like, usually, he sells a bunch of plug-in chips, and then other times, he sells materials. Does he sell other stuff? How can I tell what he's selling?

Someone has translated a section of what I'm assuming is the JP Black Box edition art book (someone, anyone, please get me scans, I'll translate the heck out of them!!!) which reveals Jackass and the Commander knew each other and were good friends, the Commander being the person named White Jackass mourns after the Bunker blows up: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=232020867&postcount=657

I think this means the Commander is a regular android, not a YoRHa model? Which I guess makes sense.

I've seen people say that the council of humanity was set up by machines before, but I'm almost positive that it and YoRHa were set up by other androids. The documents even mention using machine cores for YoRHa because using standard android AI would be unethical, which doesn't make a lot of sense unless the authors of the documents are androids.

That quest gave me so much loving grief. Here's how to cheese it:
Overclock chips.
There are two packs of enemies as you take the left path. Perfect dodge to get time to slow for a few seconds. You'll be cutting it close, but I did it without speed salves (after I ran out racing that loving rear end in a top hat).

Overclock chips are how I did it as well.

Bugblatter

Is there any way to complete it without chips or salve? If you use them, you just run the direct path and it takes no special skill. If you don't take them there's no amount of skill that will get you there in time, as far as I can tell. Kind of a bummer. Traversal skills at least made a potential difference in the first two races.

It does take skill with chips, honestly. You really cannot afford to gently caress up the dodge to trigger overclocking, and one hesitation or misstep will still gently caress you.
I beat his second race using the Za Warudo Pod Program. Work smarter, not harder.

Jesus Toast

Speed Star 3 is perfectly doable with chips alone. Get your movement speed to +20% and pile on evade distance after that if you feel like it. Go left at the start and just follow the crater around. You'll have one jump that you can easily manage and it's just a slide into the finish from there. The only real trick is not doing a hard landing at the beginning.

Yeah I took an empty chip slot and stuffed it with all the evade+ and speed+ chips that had been rotting in my inventory and went left from the start, skid around the inner ring of the crater and jump the waterfall and skid into the finish line (DONT JUMP) It took a few tries but I actually had more trouble with the first race because I kept missing the root jump.

Nope. Always three hits, as indicated by the tail geometry falling off of your cursor. It's the most basic shmup patterns around though, so some practice will get you there. I dunno if lowering difficulty does anything at all? Unless it makes it so only the easier games occur.
