I had a professor say to a classroom full of freshmen that "certain people of a certain sexual orientation" should just keep it to themselves, because how dare they remind Old McWhiteman of their existence He was also a jackass to the gay kid in class. Never said anything specifically about being gay, but insulted his work and humiliated him in front of everyone else. In an introductory English lit course for freshmen. Made the poor kid cry by saying that he'd never pass. Instructors being garbage human beings definitely happens.

I can remember coming home while the sun was starting to set too (and my schedule was not unusual; it's just that winter sun around here is from about 8:45 until 4:15, and as a side effect both sunrise and sunset are very long). The rest of it is totally bullshit though.

Tired Moritz posted:Man, I'm lucky that I lived in tropical weather. I'll tell you another bus-related story that southern people don't believe happened. I went to elementary and junior high school in Edmonton and Calgary. Snow days exist here, but the snow has to be real bad. However, a couple times I got a cold-weather day, and didn't have to go to school. This is because diesel engines don't operate when it gets too cold. It turns into a weird gel. Apparently this can happen as high as about -15, but we had the cold weather diesel so it had to be below about -35. Edit: To clarify this really did happen, though only a couple times before our family moved to Ontario. It's just that nobody who's never experienced it believes it. I only took the bus to school one day while I was in high school, but the day started so early (classes started at 7:00 or 7:30) that the bus needed to pick people up before sunrise for most of the school year when Daylight Saving Time was in effect. Just today I passed the school bus when driving to work this morning, and it was still dark. chitoryu12 has a new favorite as of 17:43 on Mar 15, 2017 |
