Both say "The Social Network" was what started it, which seems about right (and sure enough was what Mierenneuker identified as patient zero a few posts after my intial post. I agree, I got pretty fed up with that style years ago, which is one of the reasons why I don't really like much of the Pixar/Dreamworks stuff when I do get around to watching it. Stuff like Kubo is so much more interesting to me.
