Freddy Krueger's lullaby from the original Nightmare on Elm Street is one of the most iconic 80s examples (and was even used briefly in the original trailer) but Hitchcock really put the idea solidly into people's heads back in '63:

I'm racking my brain trying to think of an earlier example but since the first talkie movie was in '27 there's not a heck of a lot of room for that to happen. :v:

Yeah especially 'Hush Little Baby', the wind up music box tune and slowed down circus music.

You and everyone else who have pointed this out are absolutely correct on all these.

On further reflection, though, I think I was a little too broad in my whining - of course trailers that use kids' songs and nursery rhymes made evil have been around for a long time, my dismay was more the use of "haunting" versions of contemporary pop/rock songs.

This and this are both what I'm talking about (although it too lists the Avengers 2 trailer with a kids song someone upthread linked). Both say "The Social Network" was what started it, which seems about right (and sure enough was what Mierenneuker identified as patient zero a few posts after my intial post.

Is anyone else tired of Dreamworks/Pixar CG people? I'm just a little bit sick of how they all look, and I don't mean in an uncanny valley way. With traditional 2D animation, a person exists in the abstract. Their faces can contort in exaggerated ways but it's just supposed to represent expressions in the real world. But with CG it seems like this is how they actually are, as if those are their real proportions, and so it seems like the world is inhabited by plasticene people. Everybody is Clayface or The Mask.

It's like animating Homer using the version on the right:

I agree, I got pretty fed up with that style years ago, which is one of the reasons why I don't really like much of the Pixar/Dreamworks stuff when I do get around to watching it. Stuff like Kubo is so much more interesting to me.

This is the movie where Disney tried to trademark a Mexican holiday, right? And to keep the browns quiet, they hired some street artist as a token gesture of "here's some money now shut the gently caress up and let us exploit your culture."

Can't wait!

Didn't this movie happen already?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVOnByRE74Y

edit: I see I'm not the first one to notice, but I'm really just joking. Just cuz there's a couple of movies addressing a belief system believed by millions but relatively unknown by most Americans shouldn't be a cause for stifling them. I just hope that Pixar can actually tell a story that entirely works, instead of Del Toro's attempt which was good at parts, but he cannot handle emotional climaxes and coherent characters arc effectively since, I don't know, Pan's Labrynth? Or maybe Hellboy 2....

Actually, Disney is trying to make Mexican culture more mainstream in the United States so that average Americans are more willing to tolerate illegal immigrants. Their ultimate goal is that of any globalist: to undermine the power of governments so they can circumvent regulation and human decency, and to profit wildly off the slave labor their policies generate.

Nothing says mainstream like slapping an American copyright on another country's national holiday!

Can't wait for this children's cartoon to blow away all the racial tension created by this country.

I have also concluded that if you're a big enough retard American (not like those intolerable immigrants, I mean the illegal ones), you'll apologize for anything this piece of poo poo country and it's piece of poo poo corporations produce.

The movie will probably be fine but attempting to trademark a holiday is kind of hosed up, especially when it's from a culture that Disney has largely just flat out loving ignored for 99% of their history (the package films are the only time they've even acknowledged the existence of countries in the Western hemisphere below the Rio Grande)

The worst thing about it though is that it's a transformers movie trailer that downplays the transformers as much as it possibly can in favor of the humans no one has ever liked. I hope Optimus rides that robot dinosaur some more.
