The journalists who have given middling to overtly negative impressions are obviously not in that group either. maybe the game really is mediocre because i have seen lots of positive impressions too I don't think that makes the game a turd though imo

LITERALLY MY FETISH posted:I also like that you're convinced the game is poo poo without ever having touched it yourself, too. It really adds to the discussion. This is 2017. There is a staggering amount of video out there and enough negative first hand experience. I don't have to sink my teeth into it to know how I'll react to a game. I think we can agree the reviews will be 8/10s at best, no? This isn't exactly something I'm going on a limb on, this is a mediocre at best game. But sure, Mr. EA Access and preorder locked in, you're the unbiased opinion that surely will be objective on this one.

I didn't even think DA2 was terrible at the time (though it was released in an appalling state and was at least 12 months off from being a finished product). Then again, that was in a pre Naughty Dog/TLoS era when peanut allergy ravaged, botox faced automatons could recite bad fanfic off an autocue and not completely horrify me.

katkillad2 posted:I loved DA:I, thought 2 was garbage and Origins was great. Witcher 3 is a great game. You should definitely check that out if you're into well thought out fantasy settings and poo poo. Only thing I don't really like about the Witcher is how every "sorceress" is a super hot 20-something babe that you bang, it's kind of silly and pulpy (though I guess that could be the appeal, I guess it's also quite possible that that's what the Witcher books are fantasy pulp). I also quite liked DA:I for that matter, though the open world elements do become grating if you go full on obsessive "must complete every little sidequest". Of the Mass Effects I would probably say that ME2 scored the best balance between story and gameplay, being good in both. Of the three I had the most fun with ME3's combat, and there were some characters I enjoyed (mostly Javik). ME1, though janky in spots, really sold me on the theme and feel of the world and the effort put into lore and techno babble, felt really sci-fi. The best thing though was the soundtrack, it's kind of incomprehensible to me that they went away from the synth heavy soundtrack for 2 and 3 which had much more orchestral soundtracks (Guess they wanted it to be more "cinematic" and "epic"). It also by far had the best villain. I just never really gave a poo poo about Andromeda, basically just demolishing a great sci-fi setting with ME3 and then setting this new one in a new location in another location was just really uninteresting to me, when what was really interesting about the ME universe was the lived in universe in the background and the different empires and species and such as well as humanity ambitiously gaining more and more power. Came back here when I remembered release was getting close and find some funny faces and gifs. Game looks to be pretty bad, I'd say. Won't have to pay to play it though as my sister is a huge ME fan and preordered it a long time ago and said I could borrow her Origin account, so yay I guess.

Right. It is absolutely apparent to me now that with the ten hour demo, the countless videos and the pre-reviews coming out that for a lot of fans there is the worry that this game is not the one they wanted it to be. There are also a lot of fans who are not fazed by it at all and are still excited. We have to coexist in the thread. I don't want games to be a place where we have two threads for games and consoles because one side is more extreme than the other side. Some people get invested in these things and feel an attack on a game/console they like is an attack on their person or tastes. Please don't think that, it is not true. In the case of ME:A, you can badmouth the game as long as you're funny. You can badmouth opinions as long as it's funny. The vitriolic attacks and accusations can not continue. This thread can be better. Please join me in making it so.

Personally I'm going to buy and play the video game being discussed in this thread, specifically Mass Effect: Andromeda for the Playstation 4 console, to be released in North America on Tuesday March 21st, 2017. I will then decide if I think it is a good, bad, or mediocre video game for myself.
