After investigating this matter to satisfy my own similar curiosity I think the answer is Austin Rivers and last year's rental of Jeff Green (which was worth a 2019 first apparently lol).

e: idk if LAC is really throwing away much by trading away these picks, i don't see them picking out of the bottom 5 or so for the next few years unless CP3 and Blake's annual season-ending injuries both happen unusually early one year.

Combining that with squandering away cap space... And now we are looking at a perennial disappointment

I think he does, but I don't necessarily think giving the Clippers a rookie coach is a great idea right now. I dunno, remove Doc's GM duties and hire Mitch Kupchak and keep the Clippers together and hope Kupchak can find them the roleplayers to be poised for a Mavs-style title run (which frankly, I still think they're poised for right now, even with all the doom and gloom here).

I have been ambivalent about the Lakers keeping their pick this year, and have waffled quite a bit, but right now I strongly feel like the only way to save the Lakers from themselves is for them to miss out on the pick.

The Lakers would've been under tremendous pressure to pick Ball anyway even if Magic wasn't there, but they were under pressure to pick Okafor and still zagged. I don't trust Magic Johnson to even know that Ball to the Lakers has a huge potential for disaster or to even draft him over Fultz #1, forget the fact I am doubtful Ball is #2 and am not even sure about #3. If they miss out on Ball, they're going to 100% trade it for a vet on the wrong side of 30 and next year is going to be extremely messy.

They won't be able to do anything flashy with the #27 or #28 pick, and they'll have no choice but to lean on Ryan West (because Magic Johnson didn't even watch the loving Lakers before he took over, I sincerely doubt he knows anything about guys available in the draft after whoever wins the tournament this year) and they'll probably pick someone who can contribute to the team. The team will probably still be bad next year, and I'll miss Ingram or Russell when they get traded for A Washed Or Soon-To-Be Washed Guy, but when the team's still bad next season, Magic will quit, and the Lakers and will have a good draft pick ready to use to help replace that part of the core, and while it means adding another 2-3 years to the rebuild, it's not as bad as watching a 30 win team of old guys miss the playoffs for 2-3 years before just starting to rebuild then.

LeBron is the coach of that team. And he's top 5 in the league in terms of figuring out how to attack opponents. Lue probably gives speeches and poo poo but Lebron tells them how to play.

I don't know if Blatt was good or bad, but I do know he was a terrible fit for what that team became. Lue seems reasonably decent, but mostly he knows how to keep his guys focused. This isn't a team that needs Xs and Os coaching.

The only good thing I've seen since Magic came on board is that Ingram has been attaching the paint consistently. This has had mixed results but is nice to see.

I think Ingram would have some higher scoring games and more impressive counting stats if his free throws went in more often. You can see the annoyance on his face when he drives, gets contact, misses the shot and then bricks two free throws. It happens every game like clockwork.

After some overnight thinking, Clippers are giving up too many transition fastbreak points by LOOKING to pass too much. We can't have both Chris Paul and Blake Griffin looking to pass when they need to run and attack the basket, attack the first defender before defense has a chance to set. Attacking fast is when Griffin is most dangerous, and also when CP3 has the best opportunities to make the pass to cutters, or DJ/Blake for lobs.

This is so basic and so quintessential Clippers that it's entirely Doc Rivers' fault for not coaching it. All he does is falling down the rabbit hole of "play better defense", and completely ignored the fact that bad offensive possessions saps energy on defense, and now we're in a downward feedback loop.

E: LeBron used to do too much looking when he was a loser, and watch him now, no hesitation on offense and wins his championships. Back when Griffin was in MVP talk a few years ago he was doing all these right things, and now coaching somehow for into his head that he needs to be looking to pass first? No!

Fix this, and Clippers will get back to winning and great energy

I will agree with this. While I do think in the long run he's going to need that 3 (and he had been shooting it around 39% for 2017 when he was told to give it up, which is an acceptable 3%), getting to the basket and scoring should in theory help his confidence. The fact that he's suddenly become an awful free throw shooter might be canceling that out, lol, but what are you gonna do.

I just looked it up and his free throw percentage in college was 68% which isn't good either. Getting up to that mark would be an improvement over his current 62% though.

Agreed 100% on the necessity of the three ball. Consistently hitting that will open the driving lanes even wider.

Whatever, I tend to cut his game a lot of slack since he is just a baby and playing on the mess that is the Lakers right now.
