Nier made me forget to start it on time, so we'll start the Madoka stream at 8 CST instead. Eps 3 and 4.

Assorted thoughts from being up to episode 4 of Madoka. -Homura's actually reminding me of Reina from Eupho in a few ways. Yes I know Homura came first. -Sayaka remains Very Good. -I'm curious to see how her relationship with Violin Boy goes. Between the general tone of the show and the fact that I haven't seen even one lame fanfic actually pairing her with him, I'm going to assume that it'll go catastrophically badly, but there's a number of ways they might actually make that happen. -I wish they had saved the first use of Magia for the True Credits reveal at the end of episode 3. That's a great loving song, and it would have a bit more impact if the credits after The Tone Shift were the first time it were used instead of some of the early fights. -This show is really immaculate in terms of production. I really adore everything about the cinematography, art design, lighting, color, soundtrack - the whole thing just looks and sounds awesome. -Looks like episode 5 was as deep in as I got a few years ago, so I'm actually a little cleaner on this show than I thought. That's good.

Endorph posted:it's definitely the latter op. im struggling to think of a magical girl show from sailor moon onwards that doesn't have some sort of sad death in it, even if it's just from a sympathetic villain. I'll take your word for it, but that was some straight up, Tasha Yar poo poo. Just stone cold.

Spiritus Nox posted:Assorted thoughts from being up to episode 4 of Madoka. -Homura has a lot of emotional beats that get echoed throughout anime though she's in the top of her class. Shaft puts a lot of well-placed emphasis on her body language in this show. -Look who isn't watching the freaking BD version. hope you fix this by episode 9! Or, I suppose they did open the show with it didn't they.

Mister Macys posted:I'll take your word for it, but that was some straight up, Tasha Yar poo poo. Just stone cold. Naw. The entire reason Yar's death is so hosed up is that it has literally 0 canonical reason. The actual reason is just that Crosby didn't think she was getting enough development and left the show rather abruptly. Mami's death actually had a reason in that it drove the plot forward and really hammered home how hosed up the situation was. That's the kind of show madoka is. TNG is not that kind of show at all.
