Does he actually fight or does he just take pictures of himself with guns and stuff while pretending that he's fighting? Either way I can't give him too much poo poo, no way in gently caress I'd go to a warzone without actually being in the army again. I feel like going by yourself to a place like that is just asking to be kidnapped and beheaded. Or just good old fashioned shot and/or blown up.

So when the war broke out, the PKK-linked Kurds, who had been preparing before the war, took the initiative and started seizing territory (while avoiding direct clashes wherever possible) while the KDP-linked Kurds in Syria were not prepared. (The KDP being the corrupt governing party of Iraqi-Kurdistan.) So that put the PKK/YPG in a strong position, now having hegemony over their area, and kicking the KDP Kurds out -- and the military collapse of the KDP Peshmerga when Mosul fell didn't help Barzani's clan much either. If you're Kurdish and want to fight, the PKK/YPG looks pretty good in comparison to the mafioso types in Erbil. It's a tricky comparison but consider the terror groups. Everyone asks themselves: why are [insert disgruntled loners / select ethnicity / religion etc.] killing people in terror attacks? There must be some deep sociological-political-explanation! But really, I'm more of the mind that it's largely driven by opportunity and inertia. Terrorist person got in touch with terrorist recruit with daddy issues and set it up. It sounds like tautology and might be, but things don't happen by themselves -- some organization is involved. People are just networked together and doing it. Unravel the networks and they stop. The deeper political stuff is buried in there, way back, but
