If a character would be ok with a harem ending, they wouldn't get mixed up in the misunderstandings and angst that drives a harem romcom.

We're talking about harem anime right?

Seriously though how many harems have a character grow less possessive of the main character while still remaining a romantic interest.

most harem protagonists grow and change, also. a character growing isn't some super high level writing technique, it's so basic a ten year old can put that into a story. like every harem comedy ever made has a scene where the protagonist goes 'my life was so empty... before i met all of you...'

I vaguely remember some dumb thing where the guy had the devil's power? or was the devil? I don't remember I just glanced at it because he was cute in some random panel and noped when I realized it was a harem but the ending was him not picking any of the girls and just marrying all of them. Spoiler alert for whatever that was lol

Naw. The entire reason Yar's death is so hosed up is that it has literally 0 canonical reason. The actual reason is just that Crosby didn't think she was getting enough development and left the show rather abruptly.

Mami's death actually had a reason in that it drove the plot forward and really hammered home how hosed up the situation was. That's the kind of show madoka is. TNG is not that kind of show at all.

Yeah, I know why she left, my circle has way too many trek fans in it. :awesome:

But I'm not referring to the reason, just the depiction, as I saw it.
I have a hard time paying attention to the plot of Madoka every time I watch it (it's like, my fourth time trying to get past episode 2), so it didn't feel dramatic at all to me, more like an observation of fact. "Oh, she's dead now."

Like Ryder saying her dad is dead in those ME:A clips. :haw:

Well apparently I don't watch enough harem shows then. In pretty much every story I've watched/read, most characters go through development that makes them seem less likely to accept a harem ending. If a series tried to set up a harem ending rather than it coming out of nowhere, it feels like the romcom part would suffer because there's less to drive a light-hearted conflict.

I've never actually read or know of any series that seriously tried a full blown harem ending so maybe I'll be surprised.

That's because it did end mid-arc, there's 3 more episodes and if you're watching it on Crunchyroll they don't have the rights to them or any of the OVAs I think.

the fujimura-kun mates manga, though it focuses less on harem hijinks and more on the boke-tsukkomi comedy dynamic. i also like the same mangaka's latest harem series, aizawa-san

Drakengard 3 also has an incredible soundtrack, though it's very different from the Nier line.

The whole series has had notable soundtracks, I don't listen to it a lot but the one from the first game is weird and experimental enough that it's kind of my favourite.
