That's still not a fake crash though, it goes through an ON ERROR command and everything. Also you aren't supposed to get gassed at that point in the Carnival. I'm not sure why it'd happen randomly but it's not meant to be part of the game. Edit: sorry but it's a pet peeve. Milgram did a whole series of experiments and only one produced the famous result. For example, the experiment began with the subject and the actor drawing cards to determine who would be getting the shocks. Of course the draw was faked/rigged. But if it wasn't included, the obedience rate went way down. So the game keeps repeating "no man is an island" over and over, just like the key to escape is the key to escape. But we've yet to see either no man or an island. The village is specifically not on an island, at least in the show. So what does it mean? Keep going long enough in one direction and you'll escape?

You're right, I wasn't communicating well enough. In Many Happy Returns it's established that the village is probably on an island off the west coast of North Africa. But there's more to said island than just the village, even if it's uninhabited mountain terrain. The village itself isn't surrounded on four sides by water.

Nonsense, everyone knows the Village is in North Wales. Well, okay, Portmeirion is: Sir Clough Williams-Ellis' village-scale folly is an extraordinary place that barely needed any set dressing to play the part of the Village. One of the earliest environmental campaigners, he set out to prove that you could build something in a beautiful place without tarnishing its beauty. And it works, Portmeirion is this little Italian village that blends neatly into the surrounding coasts and mountains. It's full of little trompe l'oeil effects like having the windows on the upper stories be smaller to create an illusion of height. The Bell Tower is a neat example of it. The first building to be planned, although it started as artistic sketches rather than proper architectural plans (which has caused structural problems in the long term! But hey). This statue of Hercules needed something to commemorate. It ended up being dedicated "to the Summer of 1959, in Honour of its Splendour". Additional plaques were added later commemorating 1971 and 1975, which "excelled even 1959". Also, have a boat built into the ground. (Further Reading: Halstead, Hazeley, Morris and Morris, Bollocks to Alton Towers, 2005) e: also, fun LP so far, SelenicMartian! I've only seen a few episodes of the Prisoner, but I do have a box set lying around somewhere, this is encouraginng me to see if I can find it and carry on where I left off. e2: I think how the map works is that it's a rectangular 5x4 grid of 20 houses, but it also wraps around. So the layout is code:

In the series, it was called the Village; in the game it's changed to the Island because the game wasn't actually officially licensed. It's obvious this was a last minute change though. The data file on the game disc is still called PR.VILLAGE and.. well, we'll see later some other ways in which they forgot it was supposed to be an island. And Portmeirion is awesome. You can walk around it on Google Earth now if you want to. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place...6!6m1!1e1?hl=en I was delighted to learn that my Dad used to work in Wales and was a regular visitor to Portmeirion (in pre-Prisoner days). I think there used to be a Prisoner shop in situ there after the series came out, but it closed up when it became less well-known and now only travels there.. for the yearly Prisoner re-enactment convention. So for the village simulation, as far as I can remember your original attempt showed that: - Decreasing Gates while there's a lot of Security results in Security eventually restoring Gates - Decreasing Security while there's a lot of Ext. Comms. results in the outside world eventually restoring Security - Decreasing Security also causes the population to start killing each other and while you were decreasing Ext. Comms. the simulation ended. (Because too many people had died?) So one option might be to try zeroing Ext. Comms., then Security, then Gates from the start and see if more people escape than kill each other. (Or find out if there's something else which restores Ext. Comms. that didn't get a chance previously.) Since the sound puzzle - at least last time - was set up such that each sound was in a diagonal stripe across the floor (and consequently after hitting one sound, your only options are to hit the sound on one side, the sound on the other side, or the same sound over again), it seems like it shouldn't be too difficult to try? Assuming they don't change up how it works to be more complicated. With regards to the library, it looks like the time you generated a number without a book being burned, the generated number was between the Pro and Con numbers, but that may just have been a coincidence.

I think the goal of the library is to get the random number to be between your CON score and (CON - PRO), as I notice the number generated is never higher than CON, and on one of the higher results, you didn't lose a book. Thus, answering the questions to get a low CON score (can't give you any advice there) and having a lot of donations to boost your PRO score seems like the way to go. And for those lacking context, someone on Youtube has done episode summaries for a good portion of the series https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeJY6R2Mxpg/ Be seeing you.

The entire idea is to "teach" you the "value" of the Caretaker's authoritarian methods. Clearly, the correct move is to reduce some stuff, but then restore it, to demonstrate that you've learned to embrace The Island's methods. Or just idle for some amount of time until the game decides you've done it, one or the other. I wouldn't put it past this game to make the waiting portion take an unreasonably long time.

The pit crossing stuff is probably some sort of guess the verb thing. It asks what you want to do with the rope and the sticks, might want to try something like "take it" on the first prompt and, idk, "make ladder" on the second.

I can't really see making a ladder out of rope and sticks that would work for crossing a pit, though you might be able to make one to safely enter the pit? Maybe you have to make a ladder to climb down the pit safely as part of an escape route?

Well...I guess that's one way to convince people not to gamble too much! That must be what the slot machine actually meant when it talked about "a piece of yourself". At least we can scratch the carnival off the list and save 50 credits on the clown suit. I wonder what happens if you win the game of hangman in Building 8? Dumb request, when you find the rope or sticks it asks what you want to do with them have you tried saying something painfully obvious and vague like 'cross the pit'? I'm getting a "with what? That's interesting. It seems that version 1.9.1 doesn't just fix the Carnival bug, but it actually adds some features that were originally in Prisoner 2. The increased cost of clues is one of those, as is that particular mission, although oddly the court isn't updated, nor is the score loss from participating in your own humiliation in the carnival. In Prisoner 2 asking for a clue is the most damaging action you can take, and grabbing the balloon is tied for second most damaging at -20. The most damaging action in Prisoner 1 is also -25, so I wonder if it has been made worse to account for the increased clue cost? (We haven't see the action yet, but it's pretty easy to recognize it.) But yea. Doing Brotherhood missions skyrockets your score and is by far the best way to unlock score-related stuff. That's why getting that Theatre contact is so important.

Completely aside from figuring out how to escape, I like the idea of typing in your resignation code at the airport before the game proper starts. It kind of makes the entire exercise feel like an example of absolute cheeky spite--# is willing to tell the world why they resigned, but they don't want to tell the Island staff, because nuts to them!

I'm guessing that "Running the island for the shrinks" may mean making more business for them? Can you increase surveillance at all past 100, or maybe try decreasing everything that isn't security, gates, surveillance and communications so that they're all higher than the rest? Maybe you're supposed to make the citizens feel more paranoid, so they go to the shrinks more.

Glazius posted:Distribute habit-forming drugs for the cause of freedom? I suppose it was in keeping with the spy intrigues of the time. That particular bit is paraphrased from 1984 (so's the whole "brotherhood" organization, actually), where O'Brien asks Winston and Julia if they'll perform all manner of nasty acts ("if it will serve us to throw sulphuric acid in a child's face, would you do that?") in service to their cause. ...the thing is, those words come back to bite Winston in the rear end when it turns out O'Brien works for the Thought Police, and plays back the recordings of Winston saying that he'll forge and kill to stop Big Brother to help break him down. Is the Brotherhood in this game also a trap? Will following them to the end suddenly result in a massive score drop and one of them, I dunno, giving you a bomb to blow up the Caretaker, except the arming code just happens to be your resignation code?
