I randomly chanced upon the Rito village trying to figure out the heart shrine and had no idea I was even near it. It's sad because they seem really cool and unique, but are left with basically no idea what to do.

After that, I'd say Gerudo and Goron are tied (I loved that Yunobo got to see Daruk's ghost, I was grinning the whole time), and then yeah, Rito was by far the weakest. And like others, I'm bummed that the Rito got shorted because they're a cool species. At least Kass is there to give me more Rito story.

Yeah it's extremely simplistic, and if you do the Rito dungeon first every dungeon afterwards is a joke. I don't know the main mechanics of either the Zora or the Gerudo dungeon, because Ravali's Gale lets you break so many of the puzzles.

I really do think the Rito one was supposed to be first, or at least originally designed that way, but then because Kakariko is so close to Zora's Domain, it just makes more sense for a first-time player to do the Zora one first. Did anyone here do the Zora one later? One thing I found so interesting was how Link being unsure of himself--his responses to "Can you free Vah Ruta?" are less definitive than they are once you've already freed one Divine Beast and you know you can do it--matched up with how unsure of him the older Zora are, with Sidon as Link's only cheerleader. I wonder how that story feels later in the game, once you've already done maybe the Rito and Goron ones, where Link rolls in and nobody knows who he is, but he also doesn't have to work as hard to win them over. Then he goes to the Zora town, knowing he's calmed Divine Beasts before and hoping to be received with open arms, and gets a chillier reception with people doubting him because they remember when he failed them. It's a story that works well as your first one, but might work even better later in the game.

Yeah, me too. I was disappointed in (mild non-specific ending spoilers) how barebones the ending was. The post-credits parts helped a lot, but I could imagine if I hadn't gotten the true ending just being like, "Wait, that's it? After all that, that's all the ending there is?" The second post-credits scene if you do all the main quests is good, at least.

What the hell do I do with all these weird X's on death mountain with a little bullseye in the middle? I'm sure they are koroks and I've seen them all over, but I've tried an aerial stab, bombs, arrows, stasis, and magnesis, nothing seems to do anything.

I still haven't done the last step of the Gerudo questline, but so far Zoras win by a mile in my book. Just getting shock arrows might seem weak, but if you do it as your first dungeon it's very likely going to be your first encounter with a Lynel, and they gently caress you up at first. Second half of the game they're chumps, but when that first guy sees you and starts raining down shock arrows it's pure terror. Add to that the aforementioned story elements. Everyone recognizes you as link, still has strong opinions on 100 years ago, Link obviously had a closer relationship to Misha than the other Champions, plus you have Sidon. And while I still can't speak for the Gerudo part yet, the sequence to board Ruta, with the little mini-boss fight smashing ice and shooting stuff in midair was way better than the Goron's kind of lame stealth escort quest and how easy it was to get into the bird. Meanwhile, while I love the design of the Gerudo, Gerudo Town, and the Desert, it gets major points off for making you get hounded by Yiga archers for the rest of the game.

I did the beasts in this order: Gerudo, Zora, Rito and Goron The goddamn Gerudo beast feels like the last one you should do. 70 hours in and I'm still finding new stuff. Im spending all this time completing everything else before heading to the castle, now I have the "main stuff" done I can just relax.

I died a few times on the Gerudo stealth mission and was ready to hate it, but then realized it was literally three rooms, with the first two rooms being incredibly easy. So I just burned a couple ancient arrows for the last room.

So in keeping with my username, I did some tests and found out a few things about elemental weapons. These aren't technically spoilers but I'm spoilering them anyway just in case people want to find poo poo out for themselves. Fire weapons do an extra 10 damage on top of the weapon's listed damage when it's glowing and 'charged.' It's probably the worst element from a combat standpoint. The primary appeal of fire is damage over time; however, enemies rarely if ever actually stay on fire long enough for it to take effect. For fire to be worth it, there needs to be environment you can burn. If you can get enemies near some flaming grass or wood (including flaming weapons on the ground) they will take continuous damage very quickly. So fast that I actually couldn't keep exact track of it; around 5-10 damage every few frames. So in the right circumstances, fire can be great, but it's somewhat easily gimped. On rocks, without grass, in the rain, it's pretty much useless. Plus, lighting up your enemies will often set their weapons on fire, which makes them do extra damage to you, so Fire can actually make your life harder if used improperly. From a utility standpoint, however, fire weapons are great. You can, of course, use them set things on fire, though Flameblades can't set grass on fire because swinging them actually cuts the grass. Also, equipping a flaming weapon will give you one level of cold protection, and the ambient heat from them enables you to melt ice just by standing near it (albeit very slowly). If you need to melt ice fast, equip a flaming weapon and swing it near, but not at, the ice. As long as the weapon doesn't actually make physical contact with anything, no durability is used, and the burst of flame will melt the ice significantly faster. That's why, if you need a fire weapon, I recommend a Flamespear. They can light up everything the blades can plus grass, and the relatively precise thrusts make it easy not to hit anything accidentally. A level 3 charge attack from the spear, in grass, will generate enough fire to create an updraft for you to fly with. No other fire weapon except a Rod can do that, and Rods lose durability when swung. Ice, on the other hand, is fantastic for combat. It also does an extra 10 damage on top of base when glowing, but it has the added bonus of freezing enemies. Enemies who are frozen stay that way for a full thirty seconds, making it very easy to sideline tougher foes by freezing them so you can take care of their buddies first. You may recall previous posts of mine claiming that hitting frozen enemies does double damage. This was a mistake; it actually does triple damage, which is just absurd. The 3x damage multiplier does take extra elemental damage into account, but not other forms of 'extra damage.' You can't, for example, get 6x damage by throwing a damaged weapon at a frozen enemy. It will only do 3x the weapon's base damage, so you're better off just swinging the thing. And unlike Fire, there are very few circumstances where Ice is gimped. Basically, unless a Fire Arrow will kill it instantly, it can be frozen. Utility-wise, Ice is less useful than Fire, but still pretty great. Equipping an ice weapon will give you one level of heat protection, and they can be used to put out fires and instantly kill fire-based enemies. If you want a great Ice weapon, I recommend a Blizzard Rod. The AOE is massive, and unlike other ice weapons, Rods do an extra 20 on top of base damage when freezing enemies. And although swinging it does use durability, there's very rarely a reason to swing an ice weapon outside of combat anyway. Thunder might just be the best of them all in terms of combat. It does an extra 20 damage when glowing, and on top of that, will stun enemies for a few seconds and make them drop everything they are holding. This makes it very easy to gimp tough enemies by stealing their weapons; I always keep at least one empty weapon slot so I can shock enemies, steal their poo poo, beat them with it, and then finish them off by chucking it in their face. It's ludicrously satisfying. And while Thunder is always effective, there are some circumstances where it's just astounding. When it's raining, for example, a Thunder weapon's bonus damage jumps from 20 to 60, and hitting an enemy creates a shockwave that does a flat 40 damage to all enemies caught in its radius, stunning them and making them drop their poo poo as well. This shockwave also happens when Thunder weapons hit the water, or are used against frozen enemies. Even better, the shockwave damages frozen enemies without breaking them out of the ice, so one of the most efficient ways to kill a group of enemies is to freeze them all with a Blizzard Rod and then unfreeze them one-by-one with a Thunder weapon to maximize that sweet shockwave bonus damage. It's just too much fun. It's combat effectiveness is 'balanced' somewhat by the fact that, as far as I can tell, Thunder weapons do sweet gently caress-all outside of combat. I was sort of hoping you could cheat the game a little bit to weapon farm by shocking an enemy, stealing their weapon, and then leaving and coming back to see if they got a copy of it. It appears, however, that the game does track individual enemies' weapons, so no easy weapon farming for us. It is great for straight-up stealing from enemies without sticking around to fight them though. As for which weapon I recommend, I wholeheartedly support Thunderspears. The damage is great, they're fast, and they let you poke enemies from a distance, making it that much easier to shock them and steal their poo poo before they can strike back. I do not recommend the Rods-- the projectiles are too slow to be useful, they bounce off things, and they have kind of an odd hitbox that often phases through enemies it seems like they should be hitting. As a final note; you can get a sword, greatsword, and spear of each element from the enemies in the Coliseum Ruins at Hyrule Field. Have you done any testing against talus/hinox/lynel? I know offhand lynels shrug off thunder rod balls and won't drop weapons. But i haven't seen if weapons affect the elemental talus. Hinox i think can get stunned, but they are in general easy to punk as is.

Both kinds of elemental Talus can be stunned and have their temperature effects temporarily negated by weapons of the opposite element, but what you might not know is that this is another case where you can get away with swinging a weapon near them instead of at them. You can save a lot of durability that way!
