its funny that for all the bitching about the coyotes that goes on here and on other forums, the diamondbacks managed to bring in 14k in a 50k stadium last year and supposedly we're on their side for a new ballpark https://twitter.com/jasonmredman/status/750508584996179970

I cannot imagine the desire to go to that game was very high.

Plus holiday weekend games like that are always a toss-up. Baseball games seem either completely packed for them or almost totally empty, depending on the area.

I'm not going to look it up but it's probably the afternoon game after the big fireworks show so sure, attendance is going to be down, but the coyotes arena was more full going to see florida on a monday night than that game was

Well yeah but Gila River Arena only seats like 18,500. Chase Field's just under 50k if memory serves. 14,000 asses in seats in the first is going to look a lot better than 14,000 asses in the latter. E: mods namechange me to 14,000 Asses pls

Landover is like the worst possible location for a football stadium in the DC area. They may as well have built it in West Virginia.

And to top it off the Redskins loving suck at football. I've been there for concerts before and even that is terrible despite being like 20% as many people as you'd get for a game.

The fact that the city is even considering the Key shows me that none of them have ever been near Seattle Center when a Sonics game gets out. Total gridlock, and that was before Amazon moved between the Key and I-5. And to tout the goddamn monorail as a partial solution? The Alaskan Way Viaduct would be more effective and it's half demolished. It would be like San Francisco citing the cable car as a regular way to leave Giants games.

Really pops and embodies the money aspect of Vegas. Also when I was getting the hat two guys walked up next to me and had this exchange. Dude 1: "Golden Knights?" Dude 2: "Oh I think it's a local sports team or something." Dude 1 sees shirt that says Vegas Hockey. Dude 1: "Hockey here? Heh" Ya, good luck with fans now that the NFL is moving in. I still think they'll do well since they have MGM backing the venue.

The talk about streetcars was interesting. For record, here's the variant of that where I live. Trams/Streetcars are great at a similar job to busses. Larger-capacity light rail or just a standard metro rail setup is better at moving large numbers of people in a shorter time, but I am enjoying all the "gently caress IT LETS BUILD TRAMS" things that are going on right now. El Gallinero Gros posted:I hope Hamilton gets the team if that happens, just for the drama If Quebec didn't get a team because "it's a market with no discernible value to the NHL", Hamilton isn't going to get it either. The teams in the bottom 10 of attendance have 6 teams in the southern U.S., 2 Canadian teams (one of whom is playing very poorly), the Blue Jackets, and a couple teams in the NY/NJ area. I'm not saying this league needs to be EXCLUSIVELY CANADIAN or some nonsense, but maybe stop trying to appeal to areas that have a dozen sports franchises already. And in Kansas' case, they already lost a team and had the worst winning pct in modern NHL history (.241). Is anybody in KC REALLY clamoring for a KC team?

Is KC even interested in having a NHL team now? I thought I read that their arena made more money on concerts than they would with a full time tenant.

Still, I feel like the best candidates for expansion are Hamilton, Seattle, Quebec City, Milwaukee (Wisconsin loving loves hockey, as much as Minnesota does I'd say), and this might seem odd, but Omaha. Population of close to 500,000, and their NCAA team is one of the best attended teams in the NCAA.
