It would be great if Vegas took Jori Lehterä's terrible contract off the Blues hands. Maybe they can throw in Sobotka and a 3rd to get Vegas to agree.

I was looking through some of the online comments about Tkachuk, and I have to say that it's kinda nice that the Flames have a guy who inspires that kind of passionate, vitriolic hatred among other fanbases. Been a while since we had that.

They only need to take 32.4m in the expansion draft, which averaged to 1.08m per player taken. They'll probably only need 1 overpriced player to hit that mark, my guess is they take a guy that's over priced but not horrible so no Girardi or whatever. Bobby Ryan is my guess

they could just pay out a bunch of money in free agency too

* The Las Vegas franchise must select players with an aggregate Expansion Draft value that is between 60-100% of the prior season's upper limit for the salary cap. from nhl.com

is that 15/16 or 16/17? Either way they have to equal north of 40 million

I know it's probably only big nerds who care, but why hold back? I can't think of a single reason other than maybe they don't want us to know how stupid most gms actually are (we know). Do they actually have a secret no-fun policy? E: nah, I gave it some more thought. It's gotta be like 60 out-of-touch and 40 incompetence/stupidity.

bewbies posted:It is this. They're professional athletes and get paid millions of dollars in part to compensate for the criticism they get in the public sphere. If they're welling up over the idea that they're not one of the top 8 forwards on their team, they shouldn't be in the league. If anything they should use it as motivation to improve and prove they are worth protecting in any future expansion drafts. This is the entertainment business, there's no good reason not to release the protection lists. Hell, the chances of any player even bothering to look up which teammates were protected over them is minimal at best.

The players who go unprotected would likely knew that they were anyway, as I can imagine any half decent agent letting their client stay in dark about whether they're able to be picked.

From a management perspective it doesn't make any sense at all to publically devalue your workers...even if they probably know they weren't protected, you don't have to wave it in their faces when you gain nothing aside from the approval of a handful of particularly obsessive fans. bewbies fucked around with this message at 21:51 on Mar 20, 2017 |

Okay, we should make the draft secret as well. I mean, feelings might get hurt if a player doesn't get selected as high as another. Oh, and free agency tells players what their peers are worth. That could hurt their feelings too! Better make all contracts secret. loving bush league.

JoelJoel posted:Okay, we should make the draft secret as well. I mean, feelings might get hurt if a player doesn't get selected as high as another. I disagree with you. If they keep it secret, it would be one of the few things the NHL does that isn't bush league. It's disrespectful, can be hurtful and there's literally no benefit other than creating a spectacle. Using the draft to rationalize it doesn't make sense. That happens before they are employees of the team. I also disagree with the idea that part of what the players get compensated for is to endure public scrutiny and to forfeit privacy in regard to their contract. That actually seems pretty lovely to me. On the other hand I'm really curious and I love the spectacle so I hope it's all public.
