Polar Highlands started out as a rework of Alpine Peaks back when they were still doing those, but when they realized Alpine was unfixably hosed they just called it a new map. Only reason we still have alpine is because of Russ' twitter.

I've been calling them garbage in the queues and people keep defending them in chat. They are just a cicada that stands upright and has arms. Except it can have a slightly larger engine and jump jets. Having a slightly larger engine and jump jets is not a good thing, though, because cicadas are already completely loving starved for weight and run hot as balls due to a lack of heat sinks. Having arm weapons also means you can't strip all your armor off your arms while filling all the hard points, which further starves it of tonnage. The cicada doesn't suffer from that. If you want a mech that plays like the assassin, just play the cicadas. They have better quirks, better hard points, better geometry, actually functional (literal) shield arms, and they don't cost real money. If you want a retard speed mech with jump jets and is weapon anemic, just go ham on the PHX-3S instead. The assassin is just the worse alternative between those two, and as far as missile carrier butt stabbers go it is going to become triple redundant with the javelin coming out. I'm surprised you've been seeing people defending them. I have only seen a few so clearly nobody is buying them, and whenever people say they're bad everyone sorta agrees. They seem more durable than a Cicada but that's about all I will give them; and that's just because the arms soak a lot of damage, but they also contain a fair amount of the firepower. They seem pretty bad otherwise.

They key is that TT had tons of space for mechs that were just plain lovely. There were designs that even in-universe everyone knew were pieces of poo poo and you handed off to your backwater militia or whatever and were only around at all because they could still be produced or there were just a TON of them manufactured back in the day. It's a bit harder to do that in an online FPS that everyone expects some kind of balance in.

I always figured they'd do the Stinger and Wasp as a package deal. Build 1 model, tweak it for the second mech. Then just charge slightly less than you'd pay for 2, acting like they're giving you a big break even though they pretty much only spent resources on one mech. Kind of surprised it hasn't happened yet.

It's a 7/11/5, which makes it faster than the 6/9/6 Stinger and Wasp, and carries comparable firepower to both of them with an LRM-5 thrown in for long range potshots (an average of 3 damage is still a lot to a stinger or a wasp). It's complete trash at everything else and a Locust will still probably reliably beat an Assassin, but 1v1 vs. a Stinger or Wasp the Assassin's going to win 65-70% of the time. Which is sad, but better than nothing. House Marik likes it (but doesn't make it) because their only other option is the Hermes II.
