Yeah, I beat the game with pretty much just laser, but playing around in the post-game, Wire is really good.

Figuring that out so late make me want a proper NG+, to really use all the weapons and pods and programs I upgraded and immediately forgot about. I know I can play all the levels again if I want, but the enemies don't scale, and I over-leveled to do the optional bosses.

On playthrough two, just beat the Amusement Park again. This time I noticed where the boss's face was :smith:

Also I probably shouldn't read this thread on a phone, it's like walking though a minefield and of course the spoiler I accidentally landed on sounded like a pretty massive one

Upgrading the pods actually unlocks charge shots for them, like the Laser pod gets this crazy bounce shot thing

I think Missile Pod gets that same shot, but the Pod Upgrades are generally postgame stuff. It's not like weapon upgrades where the game gives you them around the time they'd be nice and earlier if you look around

Is it the tiny robot face on its chest? If not I missed it too.

Let the game hang on the title screen, is the intro always like this? Or did it change when I beat the game, a lot of out of context spoilers in there. Although Nier was the same.

The pods are programmed to see project YorHa to completion. It was when 042 was faced with actually deleting the androids forever that it decided "gently caress that lovely ending (and my awful base programming), I'm saving them." It required that the pod form connections with others to overcome it's base nature essentially, just like the machine collective consciousness that decided to build an ark instead of destroying the last piece of humanity.

Edit: for more thoughts.

You can sell them. But they sell for more (double) later in the game

Yes, but they'll be worth more than double that later on. Still, you'll probably be finding a lot of them, so if you have any upgrades or items you desperately want, it won't really matter. And you can always fish for unlimited money too.

NANI?

Money kind of becomes a non-issue eventually, I ended up fusing every chip I had because I actually ran out of space for them and still ended up with over 200,000 left and that's after buying ever upgrade and item possible at the moment and doing all the money requiring side quests. Admittedly I was pretty far into the game at that point.

I still haven't sold the Children's Core

Just sell enough cores to get what you want at the time so the spares go up in value.

Quests in progress may fail and need to be restarted. Some are more segmented and won't. (Such as Father Servo). The one with the couple at Pascal's will reset entirely.
Quests that are finished can't be replayed at all.
Quests that are entirely new to you in Playthrough B are likely to be new for that playthrough if you've been dilligently completing them, so I'd recommend doing those.
You can use a chapter select to get any quests you missed eventually so don't sweat things too much.
You carry items, level, chip setups and equipment across characters

My advice is to progress the main story if you feel like doing it rather than holding off because you have sidequests because you can eventually do all of them at your leisure, so enjoy the things you want to do when you want to do them.

As someone pointed out, most quests carry over and the longer ones are done in 1-2-3 segments that save. So you don't have to be too obsessive with this game, and if one quest is annoying you're pretty free to just come back at a later date so you don't wind up like me and spend an hour shooting father servo in the robo-dick for one damage a hit.

Bugblatter

I wish there was a proper NG+. Would make it feel like there was a point to late game upgrades, like higher level pods. You don't really get to mess with most of that stuff, since going back earlier has you one shotting everything regardless of difficulty.

Route C/D Question

Do they ever go over why 21O converted herself to a B unit for the assault? It seems kind of out of character for her. The information found in the resource unit on the Black Box and the end-game plan for YoRHa makes me wonder if she had come across this info and tried to make an escape or something. Though the likelihood of that seems rather low.

It's because she is out of character. She was infected by the virus so she's not actually acting logically anymore.

A fun theory I came up with immediately after reading that question is that (C/D end spoilers) she's actually a backup E unit, since her character mirrors 2B in a lot of ways.

That can't be right though, because the unit data for her reads that she willingly converted to join the assault, which means she had made the drop to Earth before the virus took over. It doesn't really speak to her motivations for doing so which is why I'mean curious about my earlier theory.

Squidtentacle

Actually considering the sidequest, and especially the way she starts trying to sound encouraging and friendly and utterly fails at the start of route C, I was under the impression she'd attempted to outfit herself as a combat model to go out into the field and protect 9S, who she was starting to consider as family. She makes a point to say "don't go into combat, you'd be a liability" and that's one of the last things we hear from her before she's a boss fight.

Also I got the Wave program before doing the quest where you have to escort the kid to his pissy mom in the village, and I felt like I was cheating. That program melts everything, I love it so much now.

I'll defer to your judgement, my memory of it isn't super clear right now so I need to rewatch/read.

Might as well do it when you're close to his level, because your damage output will be neutered by being low level.
