The birb wants what the birb wants...why settle for a taste when you can sit in it and gorge! After all, birdie feet add flavor! Got a question for y'all. Poor Cricket is full on molting...I feel so bad for her right now!! She looks like a little pinheaded avocado voodoo doll atm with all the pins on her Other than showers and baths...anything I can do to help her? She seems so itchy and she isn't into letting me help preen her pins much .I caught her earlier trying to scratch her head with one toe and it looked SO awkward, let alone working well Poor baby...I took her in the shower with me this afternoon and just soaked her to the skin and she seems happier, but once she dries she will be miserable again. Any ideas? Or is this just the way her life is for the time being till they grow out? Disco Salmon fucked around with this message at 02:55 on Mar 23, 2017 |

If birb is particularly resistant to bring preened by you, place something rough and hard to move in their living space to rub against. It's not perfect, but it helps them be less itchy/pissy. Mookie, for example, preferred a large chunk of granite for the first couple of years. That said, preening is a social thing, so be persistent! Stockholm syndrome takes over eventually.

Yeah, hard/rough things are good for birbs to rub itchy moulting faces and bodies on. My vet recommended having one rough perch somewhere in the cage (anywhere but the topmost perch - that has to be a nice big comfy one for snoozing) so birb can wear down claws naturally and sharpen their beak as well as rub against it when moulting. One that's mounted vertically like Kenshin's is better for moulting birb. You can also use chunks of rock or concrete or even rough natural woods (birbsafe obviously). This applies to non-parrot birbs as well. Our chickens have a couple of concrete bricks that they use for sharpening their beaks and itching against. e: having a variety of textures in perches and accessories is good for birb, they will generally figure out for themselves which ones to use and when. Teeka generally lets me preen him, but he sometimes is a total poo poo about letting me get the like 3" cuticle right under his crest. He is also molting like crazy right now

Heart wings and flock calling after those ones. Now she's attacking the bell to show what a big strong bird she is. She's clearly recognising Bonnie as another Macaw as she's watching with intense concentration, if it was a conure video she wouldn't be that fussed.. I don't know how vocal Bonnie is but Lucy is usually very quiet apart from a manic squarky session at night time.

So Scuttle went away today... a sad day but a happy day. As a parting gift, he bit the ever living gently caress out of my finger, so bad that I felt the flesh crunch as his beak dug in. Anyway, he went to a lady from the Senegal facebook group, she's actually the owner of http://theflyinggourmet.net/ she makes bird foods and stuff. Scuttle will be the 14th in her flock, and she's excited to work with him and get him socialized. I don't think he could have gone to a better home. Not that we weren't a good home, but we just didn't have the resources that this lady has. So long Scuttle!

Bonny is very vocal, either she is talking to herself, singing or just growling at her toys. When she gets tired she honks. Wife has said she has started purring like a cat. This used to be her go to sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbK-IUlYaPA Would do this for hours.

Just moved into a higher-density apartment complex, and I'm a little worried about Rocky's flock-calling volume. I know typical advice is to not reward loud behavior, but it's been really getting under my wife's skin. Is there any way to get him to chill out a bit in the mornings, or is it too late to teach a 23 year old bird new tricks? birb photos for the birb god

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-BNrQGVU3M Ok I THINK I got this now....made a channel and uploaded a video to it. So, last night, Cricket decided that she was in a mood, and wanted to play. She has never done this where we could actually catch her on video doing this, so we took the opportunity and the camera and she was adorable Please excuse our voices !! EDIT: I cannot figure out how to embed the thumbnail video etc from youtube, so hopefully the link doesn't screw up... Disco Salmon fucked around with this message at 18:35 on Mar 24, 2017 |
