Westworld was pretty good. I can't tell if I didn't like the "twist" because it was kind of stupid, or because the entire time the show airing you couldn't go on the internet without finding a horde of nerds alternating between saying how they totally called it, and jerking themselves off for being so smart for totally calling it.

West World is one of those shows best watched completely unspoiled and out of contact with anyone else until you are finished.

Westworld is a show made by people who watched Game of Thrones and took every wrong lesson away from it. Everyone is scheming and the show is purely propelled forward by "you won't believe what happens in the last five minutes" water cooler bullshit. Instead of writing interesting relationships between the characters, essentially everyone is constantly fighting over nothing or trying to get each other fired, which means there's no one on the planet to give a poo poo when they either die or turn out to be a robot. Possibly interesting axes like the ones between White Hat and Black Hat and the two mooks in charge of cleaning the accumulated jizz out of the robots are thrown out in favor of having everyone either dislike or actively hate each other right off the jump. gently caress Westworld

you can't build a Cynical, Realistic show with such an absurd premise as Theme Park Full of Rapebots

all the technical components of westworld were good or great, acting, directing, cinematography, the premise was the problem. yeah humanity is so bad, by the way, the CIA didn't immediately blackbag Ford the second it got out that he could develop programmable androids indistinguishable from people

Gillian gets props for being the only one in a HitB skit who's acting wasn't horribly awkward and bad. She's not going to win an Academy award but her charisma in that HitB skit was leaps and bounds above the rest. Still not a fan of those skits.

I was bored and I knew it wasn't for me after the first episode, so as far as I am concerned GoT sucks. I am not sure what show you watched but what you described is not the show I watched.

Just finished previewing Power Rangers. Y'know, it wasn't a complete disaster, and there were even some parts that I genuinely enjoyed. The pacing/editing of the back half was a friggin mess though. On the other hand, mega zord German suplex, so....

I honestly can't think of a worse choice for the 'take a campy 80/90s show and turn it into a gritty takes-itself-too-seriously remake' trend than Power Rangers.

I dunno if they'll review it but I saw Life yesterday and it was insanely generic sci-fi stuff. Imagine the plot of Alien but with the cinematography of Gravity and that's pretty much all there is to it. It's better than Gravity (which forgot you need to have a good movie to back up your show off cinematography) but obviously not even close to Alien.

Life for sure. Covenant looks like another step in the wrong direction that Prometheus headed in. Trying to squeeze out EVERY single bit of lore from Alien one is a tragic mistake. Also nothing screams Alien like a wide open wheat field during the day... Maybe it'll be a reverse-Prometheus situation where Covenants trailers are awful but the movie is really good

They really missed opportunities to make literally anyone care about anyone else in this show. Interesting conflict arises when someone's personal ties are strained or tested by exterior forces or the characters' mismatched wants. They should've had White Hat and Black Hat be two good friends who come undone by their differing philosophies toward the park (everyone's been in a position where they've slowly realized that a friend of theirs is actually a huge prick, and so that would be a relatable arc). Instead, because everyone on this show has the rage virus, they pretty much hate each other's guts from the moment they arrive in the facility, so when they argue or fight there's really no tension there at all. They might as well just have spent the first half hour of each episode repeatedly shooting each other with the magic no-kill revolvers
