I dunno, people seem to attribute more power to the Presidency than it actually has, and Trump didn't clown the GOP establishment during the primaries because Republican voters were so pleased with politics-as-usual. I think they really will eat a fair amount of poo poo from their base if they don't follow through on some of their rhetoric here (and will also eat a substantial amount of poo poo if they do, at least on healthcare). I don't think the general population will care at all that they didn't follow through on their promise to repeal the ACA, but they do want some sort of positive change, genuinely dislike both political parties, and have been very pro-"throw the bums out!" for the last few election cycles, so now that Republicans are seen as being in charge (i.e. control the Presidency) I don't think they'll be able to make obvious ineptitude work to their political advantage as they have in the past.
