Repeal drops a similar number of people off their health insurance but has no tax credits to go with it. For every HFC member they gain they'll lose 2 "moderates"

That was plan A. Ryan loved plan A. Plan A repealed all the taxes without any new spending and was a pure transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich. If Ryan could get Plan A he would drop this shithole in a second. He's only doing all of this because its the only way he gets his tax cuts. The "moderates" won't go near repeal without replace happening at the same time, when Obama isn't around to veto.

I suspect that these "moderate Republicans", fewer in number, can be browbeaten/threatened/bribed more easily than the maniacs of the Freedom Caucus.

The moderates are in gerrymandered R+2 seats, they'll lose their general elections if they go along with it.

The HFC doesn't face competitive elections. The "moderates" (who are larger, not smaller), do.

Some commentator I think it was on RT (lol no pun intended) who said it's not just 24 million impacted, if the CBO estimates are right, that would lose insurance but ALL of us will be impacted by it because those that are uninsured are going to be asking others for financial help to pay medical bills and prescriptions. I thought that was a very important point. We are heading towards serious social unrest if that bill gets passed by both chambers in Congress.

Republican voters have the memories of mayflies. I'm not sure they can remember this issue in 4 years time, especially since the Republican propaganda machine will be stepping up the hate and making people forget all other issues apart from whatever minority ethnicity's existence most concerns them.

"Repeal and replace" based rhetoric has already survived 2 elections, it'll survive one more. Also heritage action won't forget and if there's anything in that "replace" part the moderates are losing a primary

And the thing is if you build up to a social explosion in 4 years, the police have already been militarized as we saw in Ferguson and with how nuts Trump is tweeting threats on "sending Feds to Chicago" how do you think this administration is going to quell social unrest? Terrifying.

Huh. I could have sworn Massie was a member but he might not be because they're not freedomey enough for him. I think I always assumed he was a member because he'd fit in perfectly.

Not rich people, though. All their relatives are at least decently off. However, the richest guy in a poor family is going to be *drowning* in relatives begging for auntie's medicine money or a donation for little cousin's orthopedic surgery.

So—in a weird echo of the argument in King v. Burwell—if a state hasn’t defined the essential health benefits, it seems that no one in the state is eligible for tax credits. If that’s right, then the best way to read the manager’s amendment may be the same way that Republicans in King argued the ACA should be read: as dangling tax credits to induce states to do what Congress couldn’t order them to do directly.

As a resident of Mississippi, I can guarantee you 100% that they either simply won't get around to establishing what EHB means or they'll decide that *nothing* is an EHB.

Hey there friend central Virginian. :smith::hf::smith: If it's any consolation, Brat is facing rising discontent in his district, and a primary challenge is likely given that he campaigned on being more accessible to his district and has spent the last few months hiding from it. Hopefully the picture of Brat getting Cantored is a balm to your soul.

Really funny story regarding Brat. I actually wandered into Deep Run park one afternoon last summer and he was there with someone from the house of delegates to boost their profile. Every person there was over the age of 70 to hear them talk and two people were escorted away from the event for even asking about entitlement cuts. Like, big dudes in suits pulling people away from the crowd for even mentioning his loving positions.

He also looks like he's made of plastic in person. I don't know how to describe it better than that.

I don't see why. A weekend of constituents yelling will only lose moderates. He's made his artificial deadline, it apparently hasn't worked, and punting it twice means nobody will take any other deadline seriously. The only real hope is that when push comes to shove on the floor someone cracks, but if he punts it to Monday, that person isn't going to believe the threat it's the last vote if it fails (not that they do now, but they'll believe it less on Monday).
