Also, a Russian lawyer working against corruption and organized crime was injured in a fall. Some say it's suspicious, others say he was trying to use a homemade winch to lift a jacuzzi into his apartment by himself. Either one works in Russia.

Video shortly after the murder of Voronenkov, if someone wants to see it for whatever reason. https://youtu.be/ldbBuefzmug E: Peskov is blaming Ukraine in murder of Voronenkov, citing impotency of its state apparatus. E2: Some more details. Voronenkov had a bodyguard with him. Attacker came in, asked him a question, and opened fire point blank, with a pistol. 8 shots fired, 3 hit Voronenkov, both the killer and the bodyguard are wounded and in hospital. cinci zoo sniper fucked around with this message at 14:19 on Mar 23, 2017 |

Also apparently Voronekov was expected to testify tonight. The assassin is in a pretty critical shape, he got shot by the bodyguard through his head.

Ben Nimmo at the Atlantic Council's DFRLab (full disclosure; I'm a founding member) did a really good piece looking at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs newly launched fact checking site. https://medium.com/dfrlab/busting-fakes-kremlin-style-part-1-6bc4369d89e3#.otqtem4d9 You can probably guess, but their approach to labelling things fake news is Trumpian in its nature.

That bodyguard deserves a medal for his recovery. I'm...surprised that the assassin would've agreed to hitting him in the middle of the street in broad daylight. Their employer must've been desperate.

Is Batka losing his poo poo or is this normal for him? He seems to be floundering around a lot recently, first making conciliatory noises towards Russia, then antagonizing them, then trying to make good with the West, then accusing them of directly opposing him. It brings to mind a landed fish, flopping around on the deck of the boat, not realizing its already dead.

rear end struggle posted:That's the point, they wanted to send a message with the killing. Well, all such killings are meant to send a message, I think this one's message was closer to "oh my god he's going to testify in less than 24 hours." Putin isn't omnipotent, and the people in his orbit who are often behind this sort of thing even less so.

It brings to mind a landed fish, flopping around on the deck of the boat, not realizing its already dead. It's definitely much more complicated that usually. The most suspicious part in the whole ordeal is that Russia remains relatively silent. Normally protests would be all over the news with reported ties to Ukrainian revolutionaries, American ambassadors, etc. But the coverage is really sparse. It may indicate that Russia isn't interested in helping Lukashenko anymore. Despite Lukashenko's gaff about training camps, he is actually more cautious than usual and even slightly apologetic about the controversial law. Some additional 'security' measures were taken, too. You won't be able to buy tickets to Minsk online today, in some schools children are required to attend/stay after classes on Saturday, and some other small things. The reason behind it is that massive protests previously happened around elections, and no one was expecting anything as massive. Paladinus fucked around with this message at 23:32 on Mar 24, 2017 |
