El Gallinero Gros posted:Does anybody know why Calgary wasn't more patient with Daniel Tkaczuk? I was looking at his profile on hockeydb and he had 11 pts in 19 games as a 21/22 yr old, which seems decent to me. What gives? They traded him for Roman Turek after like 20 reasonably productive games. Weird. Their goaltender at the time was a rapidly declining Mike Vernon back for a late career second chance in Calgary, so they wanted a proven starter to take over. Turek had a great season with the President's trophy winning Blues, but had struggled the year he was traded (he had a reputation for playoff choking). Basically Calgary was trading potential for what they hoped would be a good goaltender looking for a fresh start. Just a classic 'highly drafted player who was stagnating a bit for an out of favour older player with a decent reputation' trade.

PK Subban didn't get suspended for taking a baseball swing at Mark Stone's hand, nobody even got a minor penalty for the stick work that broke Gaudreau's hand earlier this season, Parise hosed up Krug's hand in a similar fashion as Methot's here a couple years ago and got off scott free, so why is anybody surprised by the lack of discipline here? If the discipline was slanted in Crosby's favor it's because there was no penalty during the play, but not taking supplemental discipline in this instance is entirely consistent with how the NHL handles this kind of play.

No one's surprised, they (or at least I) just wish the NHL would actually police their players in a consistent manner that I presume is documented by the rulebook. This is just example #83421 of the NHL not giving a poo poo.

Marc Methot shouldn't be such a soft Canuck baby and just do what that true European Henrik Sedin did and have his fingertip amputated.quote:Henrik Sedin, the Vancouver Canucks centre currently playing for MODO of the Swedish Elitserien, had the tip of his left pinky amputated earlier this week as a result of an injury he suffered in a game Saturday. Sedin sustained a broken finger from a slash and the original diagnosis was that he would miss four-to-six weeks. Doctors told him that he could be back playing within a few days, if they amputated about one centimetre off the tip of his broken finger. Sedin agreed to the procedure. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/henrik-sedin-loses-finger-tip/article747269/

if anything it's "better" to slash an opponent's gloves than the middle of the stick because you're a million times more likely to get caught if you break a stick (as opposed to, say, a hand )

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the Ottawa Senators and their fans for the cowardly play of Sidney Crosby, which we all can acknowledge is the singular contributing factor to the fact that Senators will not be competing for Lord Stanley's cup now or in the foreseeable future. This behavior is novel, egregious, and isolated to the Penguins, and similar behavior from other teams has in no way has been leading to the Penguins' own players being injured at an unprecedented pace throughout the whole season. I would like to close by thanking Garry Bettman and his staff for the wonderful work they've been doing by consistently ruling in these cases to assure that expectations for behavior have been clearly defined.

Ovi chops guys' hands on the backcheck all the time. Of course, he also gets called for it constantly, but still. It just seems like a freak thing that that slash happened to do that much damage. Then again, after seeing the mustard Crosby put on that one-handed backhander earlier this week, maybe a Crosby slash (especially a two-handed one) just has robo-force.

I dunno. I don't care how many chops to people's hands are considered common. The fact that he chopped a finger off is a bit much for me. If boarding, slew footing, elbows to the head, and hurdling can be worth a game or two putting a player out of commission for the rest of the season because you just had to chop that guy's hands (just gotta!) then you should be suspended. Doesn't matter who you are or what team you're on.

Both Buff and Morrissey missed part of the 3rd period last night, and the Jets have recalled Brendan Kichton from the Moose. Which means that there's a chance that the Jets will play tonight missing six of their starting seven defensemen. The tank is on.
