Seriously why lead with the foster care angle? Surely even the Evanses are not stupid enough to think that correlates with lesbianism. Surely.

I actually think we have to go way farther back than that. My best guess is that Boyce doesn't know that 300GB is not a lot these days and thinks we're still in the 50s where you need a whole room to store that much, like loving vacuum tube computers or something?

I've been a religious lurker from the beginning, but I've finally been inspired. Also also, I've been really ill the last few days, so I had some extra time to troll GoComics for some new potential thread regulars.

Ali's House, by Marguerite Dabaie and Tom Hart

"The main difference between an average American family and an Arab-American family may simply be the food and music. Ali's house is filled with the smells of mamoul (date cookies), mujadrah (lentil and rice stew), and the sound of music coming from Ali's various ouds, nays, and darboukas. From Ali's love for his falafel stand situated in a suburban mall, to his niece Maisa's struggle to be accepted by her peers on her first day in an American school, the family's everyday situations surrounding kinship, pop culture and work are what you will find when you peer into the windows of Ali's New Jersey home."

Today's

Back to B.C., by Johnny Hart

Starting with the very first strip by the original creator. I don't know if I'll keep up with this one. It has a big nostalgia factor for me since I read my dad's old collections over and over, but a lot of it is really terrible/banal. Still, I think I'd like to revisit the mischievous anteater, "clams got legs" and the hapless "wingless bird with hairy feathers".

Lucky Cow, by Mark Pett

This was posted in this thread for a while a while ago, and I remember I kind of liked it. I like Claire. I miss Neil. The complaint about looking too Groeningesue was noted when it was posted before, but I think the general consensus was that it's not a bad comic. It ended in 2008, so I'll just start from the beginning.

In the Spirit of the Staircase, by Matthew Foltz-Gray

This seems amazing. I've only read these two strips so far, but I think I'm in love.

"The French phrase "l'esprit d'escalier" originated when philosopher Denis Diderot found himself so dumbfounded by a remark made by his dinner host that he couldn't think straight until he'd made his way down the stairs towards the door. Matthew Foltz-Gray's epononymous lead in Spirit of the Staircase never quite manages to reach the bottom of those stairs. Not so his pal, the critter of indeterminate origin who goes by the name of Mumford. He's at home everywhere and with everyone. Together they explore the weird and wonderful world of a very magical Knoxville, Tennessee. "

July 28, 2016 (first strip)

March 20, 2016 (latest strip)

The Upside-Downs of Little Lady Lovekins and Old Man Maffaroo

And finally, this one's just crazy. This comic combines twelve panels in six: you read six panels, then turn the page upside down and continue to finish the story. The image here shows both the right-side-up and up-side-down version of the six-panel strip.

"Gustave Verbeck (1867 - 1937) was the son of a Dutch missionary in Tokyo. He was born in Nagasaki, grew up in Japan and studied arts in Paris. Around 1900 Gustave moved to the United States, where his name was misspelled as Verbeek by an immigration officer. He continued to use both names. Gustave worked as a cartoonist, illustrator and painter, but he's remembered for his incredible upside-down comics

The Upside Downs of Little Lady Lovekins and Old Man Muffaroo which appeared in the New York Herald from October 11, 1903 to January 15, 1905.
He made a total of 64 upside down comics, which must have been an incredibly difficult task. Every image should not only be reversible on its own, but should also fit into the story. "
