I barely touched the laser, the missile pod is pretty fun while surfing in the desert, or against big groups of weak enemies like suicide bots and its pretty great during the flight unit sections if you don't wanna give a gently caress about aiming.

Are there any good video lp's of this game people are watching? A lot of them go up to ending A go "welp time to move to the next game" and drop it there.

I know Rekka Alexiel has a load of long Automata videos up, and she's the person who runs firesanctuary so NieR superfan probably undersells her, but that's not really an LP format kind of thing.

I'm holding out for TDI to get the call from Taro and be pushed into doing another Taroverse 100% run. Can't bring myself to experience a Taro LP without a huge serving of TDI suffering.

Square-Enix were a bit patchy when it comes to putting things up digitally in the PS3 era but I think the PS3 NieR is on PS Now in Japan (which obviously doesn't really help here)

Mostly I hate how getting ready to start the race takes longer than the entire race.

I won it in the end with a combo of Movement Speed Up, Overclock abuse and the Slow program you get on Route B. Whammy'd him the second the fight started, dropped down, dodged a machine to activate Overclock, booked it like nuts. It was still practically a photo finish...

It's kind of a troll on Automata's part to give you a Movement Speed Up chip for beating that sidequest, since it's going to be like the one thing you didn't need to complete it.

Incidentally: I can't complete Reconnaisance Squad. I've gotten all the endings and sidequests, and my Unit Data is still at 94%. Does this sidequest require fighting secret bosses to complete it, or did I just miss some weird gimmick enemies somewhere? When's supposed to be the earliest you can complete it?

Word of advice, though; there is a period in the story where you can't do this quest. Make sure there is a quest zone indicator. If there isn't, continue a plot beat.

Dang, I've run into the same problem I did in the first game where I keep accidentally killing bosses before dialogue is finished. The Auguste fight specifically, I killed him pretty much instantly. Well C is done. Reverse Credits completely threw me off and I had to look up which way credits usually go after I got up this morning. Chapter Select and Debug Menu are pretty cool.

Also I don't know what triggered it, but suddenly a bunch of shops are selling more components and I've almost done all the upgrading and stuff. But is there anywhere to buy water and simple/complex thingamabobs? Or just a good place to find them,

Ha, that exact thing happened to me. Too much sidequesting and whatever the term is for inadvertently grinding because you like fighting too much.

By the end of the game you can buy all upgrade materials... except the ones exclusively for pod upgrades. Pure water and the gadgets are by far the most obnoxious. For the former you need 20 total and you literally must just keep running through the flooded district until you get them. For the latter you can get most of what you need from quest rewards, but unfortunately for elaborate gadgets you need to complete a quest that requires 95% unit data. For simple gadgets there's a list on the wiki of hidden harvest spots that can have them.

After finishing the game (almost, still have all the side-stuff left), I believe I should give praise to the Platinum team for actually making a Cavia game that is fun to play and soul-crushingly sad. I have a few extremely spoilery thoughts about the game:

- When the game gave me control over Pascal after that one big fight, I knew it. I knew we were getting pure Cavia right then and there. The explanation for it still blind-sided me. It's not that the kids were scared, it's that Pascal taught them to be scared. drat.

- The ending isn't as big of a gut-punch as the previous games, but it's still special in its own way. The final boss was Square Enix Business Division VI.

- There's still room to continue the story in a way. In a soul-crushingly depressing way, that is. I seriously doubt Yoko Taro, of all people, has left us with something resembling a happy ending that will not be dashed the second he decides to put pen to paper and continue the universe.

- We should thank Platinum again for curtailing Cavia-like sensibilities. I am 100% certain that Taro at one point suggested that the player should lose the ability to save after the Bunker blows up, only allowing you to "save" by resting in the bed. We're talking permadeath rougelike saving.

- Shift Avoid is pretty cool. I wish more weapons had more pronounced effects.

GOTY material, this game.

He already did, in a weapon story you may not have unlocked yet. But I'm guessing it's very subject to change.

I was wondering what the point of that room was. You think he would've gotten rid of fast travel too?
