Look folks, the demand exists, and it's not like there's an alternative for your attention or disposable income. So leave your standards at the door.

I like drafting Aether Revolt-Kaladesh a lot. Today I noticed when buying packs that 2xAER + KLD is down to around 8 tickets. So now is a great time to buy some extras if you like the format.

Didn't see it mentioned here, though I may have missed it. WotC have pushed back their big announcement day this year, from the end of this week, to a date to be announced in June. They say they have extra stuff to announce for Magics 25th and Mtgo's 15th anniversaries. It's on the Mothership, but I'm phoneposting. They'll be streaming the eveny from an LGS in Seattle.

Some real low quality leaks on reddit. These appear to be intro-pack planeswalkers though. Seems like -1/-1 counters will be a major theme.

No untap next turn was my first guess too. I just would've expected them to write it as "Whenever Glorybringer attacks, you may exert it. If you do, etc."

Glorybringer looks decent, depending on what Exert is. Interesting that of the handful of cards we've seen there's been several "place counters" effects, given Aether Revolt had some pseduo-proliferate effects. That artifact looks abusable if there's a way to fix your draw, but I don't know if it could be better than Marvel. BizarroAzrael fucked around with this message at 11:17 on Mar 27, 2017 |

I think it doesn't make sense to keyword doesn't untap without the tap part. Remember Skyline Cascade, and how a lot of people assumed that it tapped the creature? If most of the time you're going to be including tapping, and the cases where you don't are confusing, it makes sense to just roll it in. I think this will be like the colourless mana change, where we get oracle text changes to cards like Crippling Chill, but this block in particular uses it as a cost

I don't think "You may exert Glorybringer as it attacks" works any better if "exert" includes tapping.
|
# ? Mar 27, 2017 12:22 |
|
One notable difference is that you exert it when it attacks, and if you exert it you choose a target for the deal-damage triggered ability. If it was worded as "When Glorybringer attacks, you may exert it. If you do...", then you'd pick a target when attacking regardless, and then only choose whether or not to exert it when that triggered ability resolves.

Barry Shitpeas posted:If exert is tap & doesn't untap rather than just doesn't untap, then that wouldn't work, because when the trigger resolves it's already tapped so you can't exert it That's assuming an awful lot about a hypothetical ability to say it "can't" do something. If I were to write the wording for exert, it would be something like, "A permanent that is exerted becomes tapped and doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step." Exerting isn't the same as the tap action; nothing is the same as the tap action, it can only include tapping, not be it, if that makes sense. You can't choose to tap something that is untapped, but you can cast Rush of Ice on a creature that's already tapped, for example, and it'll just do as much as possible. The "You may [action] creature as it attacks" wording is interesting, and I think it's going to make attack triggers easier for people. If this was worded as a triggered ability is these days, like "When ~ attacks, you may exert it. If you do..." then it does this weird thing where the trigger can happen and be on the stack targeting a creature, but the defending player can kill/bounce the Dragon... but the trigger still happens. This wording makes it more clear that you should take care of the Dragon before the declare attackers step, because once it turns sideways it's too late.
