Brb moving to Canada. How does Canada work? Do they have states' rights or something similar? Or just one governing body?

TBeats posted:Brb moving to Canada. Roughly? Similar federalist system, provinces have jurisdiction over some areas, the feds over others, with concurrent jurisdiction with the provinces and the feds on numerous areas as well. But paramountcy is a principle akin to the supremacy clause and the way Canada's constitution is set up means that the feds have sole jurisdiction over non-enumerated areas, whereas in the states it is the reverse. Other than that, substitute a lower tax burden for a higher one, a stronger currency for a shittier one, horrible healthcare for fantastic healthcare, strong institutional intelligence agencies with anemic ones, and a nonfunctioning government with a functioning one. Among other things. Other than that relatively similar.

Difference being he'll be using those corporate buzz-words while discussing the best ways to gently caress over poor-people.

On the House side, that's when it became obvious that the Republicans were just spouting Donnie's talking points and calling it a day. Canada announced last year around 4/20 that it would be legalized (or at least that they'd start legislation) within a year, so it's about time and not a surprise. I saw a couple of articles about how Colorado lawmakers are planning to avoid the DEA crackdown, but the feds are already here and have been knocking over dispendaries regularly as it stands, starting off with claims of trafficking across state lines because customers are doing leaving the state with their weed still in the bottle they bought it in, with the dispensary info all over it. And the post office is finally cracking down on larger traffickers. There was a big bust last week of a guy shipping hundreds of pounds of weed through USPS, though they got caught because one of their package receivers pulled a gun on a mailman holding two packages of weed.

In mid-December, after Trump was elected, Secretary of State John Kerry, standing next to Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, even decried the pace of weapons sales, noting they “can be much lengthier than I like or certainly than the buying country likes, and I wish we could find a way to really accelerate it and speed it up more. As the foreign minister knows, I’ve worked very hard to accelerate it and try to move it forward. … [O]ne of my recommendations to the next administration will be that we try to find a way in our laws to accelerate it.” Kerry’s recommendation has been heard, as the Trump administration has reportedly decided to approve one $1.5 billion weapon sale that had been delayed by Obama.

Wasn't it something ridiculous like $3 billion in tax revenue the first year? No way any state is going to let that go once it starts getting it. Edit: Looks like it was more like $1 billion last year, but that's still a big chunk of their budget.

Nunes is House Chair on Intelligence, appears to be hoarding some sort of intel coming from the White House that he refuses to share with the rest of the Intelligence Committee, and seems to be covering for the White House. He's also partners with a winery with ties to Putin. All other things being equal, the Chairman of Intelligence shouldn't be seen to be colluding with the very people the Committee is investigating.
