The Cyclone's are sorta cool and all but aren't they more of a luxury car and not particularly valuable or sought after? I don't know very much about muscle cars, or cars pre-1978 really.

Yes, the big cars with the high performance engines don't sell for as much. Hagerty has concourse pricing at 37K. That is not a concourse car. Also 71s usually suffer a price hit over 60s cars.

If you just want a nifty digital dash like that, w-body Olds Cutlass Supremes had them as an option, and should be cheaper than a Reatta. Also available in convertible. I have one of the dash clusters. Was going to use it in my '70 Cutlass, but for some reason GM decided to run the tach via ALDL. All the other gauges use conventional sensors. So I either need to spoof an ALDL stream just for the tach, or actually use a GM ECM. Also, on that wagon, almost all the B-bodies used an Olds V8 around then. I presume it offered something that GM couldn't get out of the SBC at the time. Handy for me and my Cutlass, since it made spare parts and later model accessories available.

In a previous job, I did IT Janitor work for a Admin assistant who had a HUGE (like 6') framed promotional poster of a Buick Reatta hanging up in her office. I told her "you know, you can buy one in really good shape for less than 10 grand these days." and she had no idea. I believe she did wind up buying one.

The Reatta's true dashboard magic is that tiny touchscreen CRT in the dash. I don't think all of them had it though, they got rid of it by '90. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFeTZGKkxwY Seat Safety Switch fucked around with this message at 15:13 on Mar 28, 2017 |

I had the Olds Cutlass with the base digital dash, and found a guide on w-body about how to switch the connection pins and upgrade it to the better digital cluster. It ruled! I did have to run a wire from the OBD plug to get the tachometer working. That was my favorite part. edit: here's a video of it working. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JN9OFO_4VUw

Seat Safety Switch posted:The Reatta's true dashboard magic is that tiny touchscreen CRT in the dash. Yeah, the Reatta with the previously-posted dash didn't have the touchscreen. It proved to be too finicky, and the tuner packs they used (same as the pickups of the time) were poo poo for reliability, particularly since they were mounted in the console, under the cupholders. Nocheez posted:I had the Olds Cutlass with the base digital dash, and found a guide on w-body about how to switch the connection pins and upgrade it to the better digital cluster. It ruled! Yup, that's the one. I'm still thinking of installing a GM ECM with minimal connections just to get the ALD for the tach. There was a guy won W-body.org that said he could build a circuit that took a tach signal in and output an ALDL stream, but I could afford it at the time. I don't know near enough about ALDL to even attempt it myself. I can build stuff, but that's programming, at which I am poo poo. I would pay money for this.

Grew up in the 80s/90s to lust after them, enough disposable income, nerdy enough to appreciate weird Japanese sports cars. I've seen maybe 4 or 5 of these in my life here in the Midwest.

You Am I posted:Oh God that poor Honda, one of those shitbox Holden V6s in it I'm going to have to ask you politely to take back any disparaging comments on the Buick 3800. I realize that this one is not supercharged, but that was a damned hardy engine. Particularly for something rooted in the early 60s. Also, that Honda appears to now be rear wheel drive. I think I'd have found 13" wheels for it though, to avoid chopping out the wheel wells...
