Weren't we supposed to get Masterpiece spoilers today, on some stream or something? 80s James Hetfield posted:Probably just going to get the other color fast lands Didn't we literally just get these in KLD, or are you and I assigning the same nickname to two different cycles of lands? Or do you mean "they'll reprint the SOM fastlands"

Back then core sets came out only every other year, so in non core set years they had a slot for an additional summer set. Lorwyn/Shadowmoor came out of that, Unhinged came out of that, and Coldsnap came out of that

ShaneB posted:Can anyone who was playing at the time explain to me why Coldsnap exists? It seems so bizzare to release a tiny set that was tied into Ice Age from 11 years prior. Basically they needed something to fill that dead time of year that used to happen between sets when blocks were 3 sets and core sets weren't released every year. So they created a "lost" set to act as a standalone. Nowadays they fill those gaps with sets like Modern/Eternal Masters/Conspiracy, and products like Commander/Planechsae/Archenemy. e:fb

I believe coldsnap exists solely to enable my friend to grief block vs block constructed with necropotence. My friend is that one guy who got to the vintage finals at EE last year with dredge, so he's quite the fellow. A big flaming stink fucked around with this message at 20:22 on Mar 28, 2017 |

Sickening posted:Perfect fits are like 3 bucks for 100, why are you ever taking them off? Because double sleeving was a lot of cards (e.g. fetchlands, Fatal Push, etc.) moved between standard and modern and EDH decks and they're not all double-sleeved because it takes fucken forever to double sleeve a deck up. Most events I play in start at like 6:30 and I get off work at 5, so more often than not, I'm making changes to a deck in between getting home and heading to the store and it took too long, which is partially why I gave up double-sleeving.

Attorney at Funk posted:If you could make any additions or subtractions to the banlist, what would they be and why? It's hard to tell, DC itself went to 20 life, then C16 comes out and Breya and assorted Partner-based decks show up and almost instantly became top-tier, but they aren't super-super top tier and "Partner" covers a ton of archetypes from WR Aggro to wet junk midrange. Now Wizards is going to have its own official 30-life format, so things have been in a lot of flux. I'd let Mystical Tutor back in because Oloro and Zur were doing cruel things with it and got banned anyway, but Baral would jump on that instantly and doesn't need its help to turn into Emrakul when he can draw into his polymorphs just fine. Entomb was axed to weaken graveyard combo decks but they had to get Necrotic Ooze to dunk those anyway, so maybe that could come back in? Or maybe both since GY combos have zero presence now? But, once again, we're going back to a 30-life format so a lot of the problems w/r/t control decks and game-winning combos having a big safety net will be back. I'm fine with every legendary creature that is banned as a Commander, personally. My brother disagrees on Marath. Siivola posted:Do you play French or Italian Duel Commander? The French list for now. Again, official wizards format looming.

Zurgo! I feel like aggro is still a tad too dicey in Duel, control is just really strong as-is, but it's certainly way better than it was before the life total got reduced. Which commanders do you play, Sheep?

Crackling Doom and the Commands were all pretty solid e: Also yeah most good creatures having larger toughness than power meant that you often didn't need "answers", just a wider board. GW Morph was the worst poo poo ever. Fajita Queen fucked around with this message at 22:18 on Mar 28, 2017 |

I just leave all the cards in perfect fits, if i need to move between sleeves then the cards are protected. The fact I move cards about so much is WHY I double sleeve. Admittedly I do tend to stick to one kind of sleeve so I can move the whole sleeved card if possible but that tends to only be for a little while until my sleeve whims change.

Entropic posted:Silkwrap. One of the cool dynamics of Dromoka's Command was that it was so good against splashed enchantments, the answer to it was to just play nothing but enchantments. Near the end of that standard, we had that G/W enchantress deck that was just Courser, Eidolon, Mastery of the Unseen, and all the O-Ring style effects you could cram in the deck.
