Sup ADD/ADHD goons.

The self employed bit worked for me. I'm a contractor for several terrible companies, but together they add up to an okay income (for me anyway - most would laugh at what I bring home, but I work about 25-30 hours a week and don't spend much except on beer)

A bit of :420: helps me keep sadbrains away.

I used to love retail, much for the reason that CPP pointed out. But dealing with people in general just pisses me off now, and the older I get, the harder it gets to just smile and nod instead of telling them to gently caress off.

I'm also ADHD so what I do is switch between three different projects I have right now and suddenly the 8 hours is over and I've actually been there for almost 9

This is without adderall too but I also have imposter syndrome kicking my balls and telling me other devs take half as long so that doesn't help

If I don't have several projects at once (even something as basic as "do the dishes, vacuum, do laundry"), nothing gets done. Pile of dishes in the sink? Doesn't exist until laundry or vacuum day. Laundry? Doesn't exist until sink or vacuum day. Vacuum? Doesn't exist until laundry and dishes day. I have to be able to switch back and forth among multiple things, otherwise I work at something for a few minutes and get bored.

edit: never really thought about it until now, but this is probably why driving anything with an automatic drives me crazy. I need the 3 pedals + knob in my hand. :quagmire:

This, except IT support. After the third time this week of you not being able to print because you didn't turn the printer on...
I'm not diagnosed, but I suspect mild ADHD, and/or mild autism spectrum (hello? goon). Neither bad enough to go on meds at present, so I've not bothered to get a diagnosis. poo poo didn't exist when I was a kid - they just worked around it, or you were a problem child. I got lucky with good teachers, I think.

Same boat. No diagnosis/teachers worked with what ever issues I had due to my creativity/smarts. I wired my grade school for Cat 5 @14yrs old. In high school I started to help the former VP who was reassigned to IT. Guy didn't know how IP addressing worked. I would get called out of class on a weekly basis, finally got so bad they assigned me a period just to help him. I was a C+ student, but known by everyone in the school.

I'm actually having the same issue BLK is to some extent. By 11am I'm bored to death even with a list of projects ahead of me. It's not good for me or the business. Thinking it's finally time to see someone about figuring out what's up with me and move on. I don't need this hanging over me and I'm tired of the excuses I keep making.

Also, my annual review was met with flying colors and a maximum raise was issued. All 3% of it. Lol, retail.

Years ago when i was in Talladega Alabama covering a NASACAR race, I decided to tent camp in the track infield since it was free and i could use the showers in the garage area. One night before going to bed, I remember hearing people talk about a storm coming but didn't really pay much attention. Cue waking up in the middle of the night to my tent trying to take flight and tornado sirens blaring with inaudible announcement which I assumed was saying PUT YOUR HEAD BETWEEN YOUR LEGS AND KISS YOUR rear end GOODBYE.

I have never got up and got dressed that fast in my life, the whole time trying not to poo poo myself while doing it, and got into my car which wasn't all that safe but a hell of a lot safer than a tent. That morning in the media center everyone was freaking out about what happened including most of the drivers when it was comfirmed a tornado had indeed touched down very close to the track :ohdear:

In other news, I live in a town full of busybody old people and a police force with notoriously too much time on their hands. Today on Nextdoor:

Some one called the cops on a jeep yesterday for two teenagers drunk driving. Assuming they called 911. It turns out it was me(closer to retirement then teenage) and my daughter with permit learning to drive. Her first time ever traversing her way to school and I had to twist her arm to do it. 15-20mph pulling off to side for cars to pass, I was so proud of her. Next 3 cops arrive at my house with bullet proof flak jackets and guns after doing investigating for and hour, to interview my horrified, inconsolable daughter. Going to get student driver magnet. Just a suggestion that people slow down, relax and not be so quick to waste cops time. This was a special moment I will not be able to get back.

:smith::hf::smith:

Never had a diagnosis myself because my little brother was severely ADD to the point that he needed to be removed from regular class and put in an alternative learning program where at-risk kids could deal drugs and become successful. 15 years later he's an accomplished chef with a wife and kid and having a great life. I'm full of debt and regret and, much like you, am looking at my enormous to-do list and feeling utterly bored as soon as I sit down. Co-worker pointed out that one of my Windows servers that's running Apache has an expired cert (that I do not care about) and is using insecure SSL/TLS protocols (which I do not care about).

There's a weird feeling that comes over me at those points, and I expect it's the same feeling I would have if I were standing on a cliff with someone trying to push me over: I do not want to do <thing> and nothing in the world is going to make me. It's infuriating. I've had 25 jobs (I'm 32 years old), and I'm just as tired of hopping jobs and explaining to my friends/loves ones why I'm quitting yet another job as I am with my general disposition on the job. Nothing's engaging, I get no sense of relief or accomplishment when something's completed, it just sucks.

I don't know man everytime I go to the gym here there are like two huge dudes with raging high and tights snorting Nitro-tech off of each other's rock hard abs.
At least in America, talking about finances is rather taboo, but most people aren't nearly as financially stable as they seem

My coworker is married and they have 1 daughter and she is 7 months pregnant with a second daughter. They own a house, 2 cars, and are trying to save up and buy a new SUV. To the world, the look like they're doing great, I was super jealous of her success
Friday night, she was complaining to me that she was having trouble making bills this month and had to work 10 days in a row to make her mortgage payment and she was feeling random contractions due to the stress. Her husband has been off work for a month because the remodelling company he works for has no clients and has no work to be done. Neither of them have degrees or even real insurance, and she is planning on taking 4 months off of work for the birth to take care of the kids

Even my parents, who are the head of the local teacher's union and the care coordinator for a hospice system have their own financial woes. Especially since my dad might lose his pension and my mom has only $12k in her 401k at 52 because they were relying on his great benefits for retirement. My dad drives a 85 (I think) 944 with 220k miles on it that has a bad rear diff, and my mom drives a 05 Outback with 145k and a failing transmission. They're looking at selling the house or putting in nearly $25k in repairs to the plumbing and leaking foundation after the massive flooding destroyed the basement

Looking at the grand scheme of things, I'm happy to have only $4k in credit card debt at 24. And sure, I might be temporarily back in my parents' house and out of my degree program, but I'm getting better and going to move back out soon. I'm not on top of the world, but I'm not underwater either
