I don't know, it's bullshit to try to shame the US into investing in not-coal. It's trying to play on american's nationalism and being #1 to get them to see trumps doubling down on coal as bad. If it works, good for that little propaganda strategy.

I should say though that despite the Rob Scneider ad and the 1990s website Ten Ren is actually a great place to buy good tea in the US. Taiwanese company too. I recommend the "Tung Ting" oolong.

I think China has some excellent players to bring to the NHL. Here's what happened when the Chinese u18 team played the Taiwanese one a few days ago:quote:Taiwan notched their third win at the Under-18 World Championship in Taipei yesterday — defeating Bulgaria 4-2 — a day after their encounter against China turned nasty seconds after the game finished 4-0 in favor of the visitors. http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/front/archives/2017/03/26/2003667487

It's curious that China so rarely has a competitive boxer in the Olympics but to a celestial what is the point of throwing a punch in a sport where that is allowed? How exactly does one gain face by show the clever when so many physical forms of autistic screeching are actually not cheating? If you cannot cheat and do so in a repellent, destructive way then what motivation remains to act at all? raton fucked around with this message at 04:06 on Mar 30, 2017 |

What the gently caress is that oil they put on Chinese food that makes your tongue all numb, greasy feeling and ruins flavors for a while? I had dinner with my sister at some spot she was raving about and three oily bites in my taste buds broke. Kind of vinegary too.

Sichuan pepper quote:Sichuan pepper's unique aroma and flavour is not hot or pungent like black, white, or chili peppers. Instead, it has slight lemony overtones and creates a tingly numbness in the mouth (caused by its 3% of hydroxy alpha sanshool) that sets the stage for hot spices. According to Harold McGee in On Food and Cooking, they are not simply pungent; "they produce a strange, tingling, buzzing, numbing sensation that is something like the effect of carbonated drinks or of a mild electric current (touching the terminals of a nine-volt battery to the tongue). Sanshools appear to act on several different kinds of nerve endings at once, induce sensitivity to touch and cold in nerves that are ordinarily nonsensitive, and so perhaps cause a kind of general neurological confusion."

I think Szechuan peppercorns are great and provide a really interesting tasting experience. In moderation. I went to a Szechuan restaurant having never really had it before and ordered 4 or so dishes that all had generous amounts of Szechuan peppercorn. They were all individually really good, but after a while the numbing effect added up and everything just tasted the same. Probably best to get only a couple of dishes that have it and get a fairly neutral vegetable dish and some white rice alongside them instead.
