Your Loyal Vizier posted:Edit: why do we call them forum dads? This feels unfair to dads everywhere. Because the quintessential Elite grognard is one who played the original Elite back in -84 when the original game was a thing, and is now desperately trying to relive those years of childhood nostalgia while trying to decide if his kids really need to have juice over his need for new Coriolis-shaped masturbation bucket. Personally, I prefer eighty-führer. Bear in mind these are the same people who loudly complained and bitched when Frontier implemented the route finder for your navcomp back in the beta. Let that sink in - this is the same kind of a person who thinks basic functionality will somehow ruin the game, since it wasn't present in a game created over thirty years ago. I'm pretty sure most of these kneejerk complaints against actual multiplayer functionality are based on most of these people suspecting that the game, in fact, is more fun when you play with someone else and if they can't have fun, nobody else can.

Still assuming that you need roughly 1500 missions to go from rank 0 to rank 14, just think: All you have to do is complete five missions (of some unknown sufficient value) a day, every day, and if you started on January 1st you'd have your new Cutter or Corvette by the end of October! Then you can start working to unlock the other ship and you'll have access to all four of the current top-tier ships, instead of just two, after over a year and a half of playing the game every single day!

People just like to bitch. If it is not one thing they find something else to bitch about. The game is better then ever, and really you don't need to rush to larger ships, it just a few in this thread that are obsessed with income, nvm the fact more money does not really change the base experience of the game. And it is amazing using the Rift.

My only real criticism of the game so far is that I wish that each system looked more distinct. At least change up the skybox every now and then, where are the awesome nebulas and planet varieties? For all of it's colossal glaring flaws No Man's Sky actually has this game beat in the "interesting things to look at" dimension

You want a more distinct look, well go travel. Different parts of the game have very different skybox, but it is dependent on actual location of nebulas. Not sure what you mean by planet varieties, there are a lot of them already.

As a newbie, the foundation is there but it could really use some work. Flying around doing stuff looks and feels awesome. Everything else is unnecessarily awkward. Why isn't there a tutorial or walkthrough that pops up the first time you try to do a specific thing? On top of that, some systems seem needlessly complex and you would have no idea how they work unless you asked someone or looked up a tutorial on YouTube.

There is a big leap in cost around asps to fer de lances, and FDLs and up don't really allow you to make enough money to fully justify their cost, especially given how much they cost to buy back if you explode. But that mid game is pretty awesome!

Is an Anaconda covered in (engineered efficient) beam turrets going to work at all or will it burst into flames and make the weapon cap drain in no time? Or is it a suitable comedy build (pink lasers required, obvs) for some PvE action in CZs/RESes?

I've been building exactly this with all efficient beam turrets and it is hilarious. Huge is a fixed healbeam Bottom large is a Gimbaled beam. Bottom smalls beam turret Top larges beam turrets Front mediums pulse turrets with scramble spectrum. Really no heat or cap problems and i'm only efficient 4.

Taking a break from my white knightrolling to say that I just got done refitting two of my ships , and I'm super excited about how they turned out. I do a lot of mining, because it's a fun, chill thing to do while listening to podcasts and watching YouTube. I have a heavily armed and armored Python for when I'm looking for hot RES action, so I stripped the guns and armor off my Cutter and turned it into my kissboy quiet time mining barge. It's sweet to have a mining ship that can jump over 30ly, carry an extra fuel tank that gets me anywhere in the bubble, drop like 10 collector limpets at a time, and still carry 500+ units of shinies. I've had my Cutter pimped for combat up until now, but I've never much cared for fighting in it. This new config is dreamy. My second refit was my DBX, which I had geared up for Fuel Ratting and misc. salvage duties. Finally stripped it down into a pure exploration ship, in anticipation of 2.3. Lots of lightweight mods, and somehow I got away with not having to overcharge my downsized power plant (went with efficiency instead) Low emmisioned my downsized shield, and just barely got the hull weight down low enough for it to work. Getting 50+ ly out of it now; can't wait to see how much that weight reduction (along with a couple other 2.3 engineering additions) improves things. Only what, two weeks or so until the patch is likely to drop? Trustworthy fucked around with this message at 20:21 on Mar 30, 2017 |

The "skybox" is unique in every system, and is actually calculated on the fly when you jump in the system to show the stars around you as they would actually appear. If you want to see nebula, you need to travel nearer an actual nebula.

Speaking of nebulas, have they unlocked the systems that sit in the way of Barnard's Loop, or is there still a huge wall of restricted systems in the way?

I'm surprised it was able to hit 45 ly with so many things fit on, and it'll go so fast and fly so smooth that planet surveying will be a breeze. Also this build assumes you have an unusually good roll on the FSD; something better than the standard best, though not necessarily as good as luckily possible. I guess I can shed the guns if I need to make up for a deficient roll to meet my 45 ly goal. Your Loyal Vizier posted:Wow. Elite is all about simulating a mechanistic galaxy. Isn't to say there isn't pretty in Elite, because Elite can do pretty, but it's a different kind of pretty.
