I can't point to a single one of his films I don't have some misgivings about but I constantly find myself defending them just because the reasoning for the case against them -- and especially the Superman movies, which are nowhere near as ambiguous as Sucker Punch or 300 -- is so frequently nonsense. I don't doubt folks here could do better but it's also a kind of case where anyone who cares has already exhausted the argument.

Colour me surprised, I had extraordinarily low expectations for a video game adaptation of a 'intelligent' 'thoughtful' game like AssCreed. On the surface, at least, the whole conceit of 'genetic time travelling' struck me as Very Raceist. I guess there's a certain interesting idea in Generic White Male Protagonist reverse-vicariously living through his cool ancestor, while being trapped in Corporate Hell, but I never finished any of the games or saw the movie, so.

In this analogy, I am saying "some of you could do backflips, probably." I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. I think the movie is a little too glib in dismissing Lex's point about theodicy, but it doesn't matter because he can be correct about God and still be wrong about Superman. That's not really an argument against the whole film, though. Tuxedo Catfish fucked around with this message at 07:06 on Mar 31, 2017 |
