Honestly, I don't have strong feelings about Zack Synder one way or the other. I think the last one of his movies I even saw was 300.

I can't point to a single one of his films I don't have some misgivings about but I constantly find myself defending them just because the reasoning for the case against them -- and especially the Superman movies, which are nowhere near as ambiguous as Sucker Punch or 300 -- is so frequently nonsense.

I don't doubt folks here could do better but it's also a kind of case where anyone who cares has already exhausted the argument.

I didn't say it was very good. I just said that I enjoyed it at the time because it was just a man bulge party. I'd obviously rather watch Zardoz or Mad Max 2 any loving day of the week.

Colour me surprised, I had extraordinarily low expectations for a video game adaptation of a 'intelligent' 'thoughtful' game like AssCreed.

On the surface, at least, the whole conceit of 'genetic time travelling' struck me as Very Raceist. I guess there's a certain interesting idea in Generic White Male Protagonist reverse-vicariously living through his cool ancestor, while being trapped in Corporate Hell, but I never finished any of the games or saw the movie, so.

I want to frame this post because it perfectly encapsulates how I felt about this movie but is way more articulate about it.

My whole takeaway was that it's a really cliche zombie movie that's also incredibly beautiful in spots.

Something that ain't my responsibility to construct.

If you stay away from "MARTHA" and "this movie about a guy who's deeply disturbed by the way he's seen as a god, and sacrifices himself for the common good, is actually Objectivist" you're off to a good start, though.

The gently caress are you talking about? I like the movie. In this analogy, I am saying "some of you could do backflips, probably." I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt.

I think the movie is a little too glib in dismissing Lex's point about theodicy, but it doesn't matter because he can be correct about God and still be wrong about Superman. That's not really an argument against the whole film, though.

Parks was a fairly reactionary filmmaker, and The Learning Tree is veritably Rockwell-esque. I think it still works kind of like a less well shot, more nuanced version of To Kill a Mockingbird, but even for Park it's no hot shakes.

Now, Shaft's Big Score is a masterpiece.
