Looks like later this week we'll get the option of picking the map generation seed when starting a new game:

The tailor event isn't worth it; you're more likely, by far, to get the same armor by running terrorized town missions.

The events that are worth carrying a dude around for:

1) cultist, special helmet and armor
2) Bowyer, special bow
3) Caravan hand, cart carrying capacity upgrade
4) houndmaster, wolf pet doggy that makes wolf noises instead of dog noises
5) I've been told the historian does something but haven't verified

Something else?

Do you know if you have to actively level them or does the game just check if they're in your party? Might try to get me some skin armour.

I really want a good passable historian to level (my 3 talent star melee Historian was in the last build) because Student is another classic WHFRP starting career to go with the Ratcatchers.

Yeah I can never find a decent historian. They seem to always be bleeders.

Dunno. Tailor can be level 1 for the hides event.

It annoys me because I had a great one, once, but like I said, last build. Before I knew to hit that 'enable beta build' button.

My real dream is a Historian with Bright just because why the gently caress not. That said I've had really good luck with Apprentices.

The only thing different in helmets is the amount of hits they'll stop until the rating is gone. Anything that goes through will still do double damage (crossbow bolt) i think.

Honestly I find nine lives to be better for my backline anyway if i'm planning on keeping them around. Any stray instakill bolt instead drops your dude to 1hp and backliners usually go next, so they can just back right off.

No, IMO.

Aside from my greatsworders turns out a dude with a military cleaver is a drat murderer. Later game i did nothing but the head chop ability and it was pretty funny for the guy to chop 2x heads a turn. Real helpful for weidergangers too. I'm not keen on greataxes, the usefulness of the circle attack is predicated on using like lone wolf and the anti-surround perk, and compared to the utility of 1x/2x/3x space attacks a greatsword offers they just dont rack up the kills nearly as fast. My final kill count with my kitted greatsword guy my last game was nearly 200, and my axeman who i had nearly as long was less than half that.

I view headhunter as required on basically everyone in the frontline, along with brawny, steel brow, and battleforged

Real tempted to have a gimmick band of almost entirely military cleavers and see how that goes.

The math is kinda wonky on headhunter, remember.

Agreedo on steel brow, though. Endgame armor might make it possible to shrug off the occasional (occasional) bolt to the brains, but (a) you have to get there first, and (b) when you do, a great big orc with a great big axe will show up to gently caress you in the butt (and noggin)!!! and he won't be gentle!!!

this is an interesting point, and it may inform my future backliner choices. also, do you folks find you get much use out of overwhelm? I'm kind of thinking of dropping it, since by the time the lines meet I'm more or less shooting at targets of opportunity, rather than making informed debuff choices based on advanced damage mitigation calculus

Down came the glitches and burned us in ditches and we slept after eating our dead.
Great axes are good against beefy dudes because they double attack the same dude and one of those attacks is a guaranteed headshot.

The great swing means you cant really have solid lines and yeah its not too common but the primary attack is really good at making things dead and you dont even need headhunter on them since its guaranteed.

Does anything come close to their raw damage output?

I like overwhelm a lot but I run a 7 front line/5 back line setup so even after lines meet I can still usually target debuffs to protect particular guys or nerf especially dangerous enemies even in a melee.

I like overwhelm for archers just because they're debuffing 2/3 people a turn and lower odds for enemies across the board are better for long term survival.

How do you guys deal with bad morale for your reserve? People tend to get pissed after a few days of reserve and it annoys me to switch them back in for a fight or two while I actually try to train a rookie/my good guys. Frankly, the fuckers should be grateful and lick the ground that I walk on because I clothe, feed, and pay them for chilling out and doing nothing

i outright look for "is always content in reserve" people because this is such a freaking problem. certain backgrounds like cripples work, and the disloyal trait is actively a benefit there. due to the semantics, you really need to look at the reserve as a group of people you pay to be marginally less useless than whatever slackjawed yokel is hanging out in the next town square you stumble into. get them to level 5, strip them of their gear, and park them in the reserve until they are needed.

if you're training someone up for a bit then a couple of morale penalties in the reserve should not be make or break unless you are already riding the edge.

It's more about neutering the high threat stuff, which is real easy to figure out - berserkers, 2h users, warlords, etc. Stuff that can be painful if it hits, so less chance of doing so is nice. It's usually the stuff I'd have my guys shooting anyway in an attempt to wear away armor. Aside from that dodge is pretty nice when you have a 140-150 init archer with it. I usually do dodge/nimble since i tend to keep them in light armor. My last dozen encounters with necrosavants haven't claimed anyone, so it feels like it works. It's also useful to give archers something to reach for regarding usefulness vs skeletons beyond armor damage with overwhelm. Nine lives just spares you from the final hit, not anything up to it.

One of the bigger things is there is just not a lot of archer-focused perks to take, so it always feels like you have a 2-3 perk points to burn on random stuff.

Soup du Journey posted:

I do, i usually have a 7/5 with 3 archers, bannerman and another pike in back.

Churn hire cripples until you find some decent ones, they're always good backup. Wait for your dudes to get permanent injuries that leave them content in the reserves and stick them there, there's quite a few that really aren't that bad.

If I'm going to be fighting orcs, is it worthwhile having my archers carry around crossbows in addition to their bows? I would think that crossbows would be better for the orc warriors and warlords, but I haven't been able to test how effective one shot from a crossbow is vs. two from a bow each turn.

Orcs have terrible morale so inflicting a massive amount of injuries is the way to go, a good bowman with the with the cripple perk is devastating.

I just give my archers Overwhelm and bows now, two Overwhelm stacks is more helpful than a crossbow's armor piercing

Must have, because my dedicated Overwhelm bow specialists have to carry an extra quiver in the bag to keep up. Yet another reason for them to take quick hands.
