Are Moffat and Capaldi doing the next Christmas special, or are both departing after the normal season run? I'd thought they hadn't cast his replacement yet, but now that I think of it, they'll have to be filming his regeneration soon, won't they?

Both Moffat and Capaldi exit after the Christmas special, which will probably shoot early this summer. I don't think Chibnall's supposed to report to work for season 11 until July or so.

Maybe Moffat will do some final timey-wimey stuff before he bows out.

I still wish gay FBI agent could be a companion.

I know his actor's busy, but this is doctor who, weird arbitrary bullshit happens all the time. Recast him and say the timeline changed, or maybe he gets rescued from death by a time lord giving him a regeneration so he's the original actor for one episode and the rest of the time a more available one.

Anyway bill will probably be alright and I hope they do okay with her.

Dude from Leverage, Battlestar Galactica, and Firefly? This guy?

Yeah, he's awesome. Also, his older self in that episode was played by his real life father, which is how they both have the same gravely voice.

Always thought "Clanton Everett Delaware" is the most "British writer thinks of the most stereotypical American name possible" name ever. Only way it could be even more so would be if it was "C. Everett Delaware III". :D

I'm hoping that the Big Finish modern doctor Chronicles releases will revisit Canton. The 9th Doctor set has Jackie and Adam, the Lives of Captain Jack box has Alonso. I could see them shelling out for Mark Sheppard for a single episode of the 11th Doctor box.

Current rumour is that Bill might only be around for the one season because Chibnall wants a complete fresh start when he takes over. Disappointing if true. Obviously Freema Agyeman and Catherine Tate were only regular companions for one complete season each but I've personally become accustomed to them sticking around for more than one.

I don't really put a whole lot of stock in the bookies (mostly because I don't really understand how odds work - but I remember Capaldi wasn't really mentioned a lot until there was a massive rush of bets on him a day or two before he was announced) but as far as I'm aware the two favourites on that front to replace Capaldi are Kris Marshall and Phoebe Waller-Bridge... and Tilda Swinton.

I've got to ask about Tilda Swinton because she's always mentioned - is there any realistic possibility that it could be her or is it just fantasy casting? Because she's always seemed to me like too big a name to be plausible. I'd be keen to see her play the Doctor but the constant talk around her as the favourite has always struck me as wishful thinking.

Didn't Pearl Mackie say right when she was hired that she expected to only do one year?

Edit: And I know at least one of the tabloids -- the Mirror, I think -- has said that the BBC wants basically a complete restart, TARDIS set and all, because merchandise sales have plummeted during Capaldi's tenure. Obviously it's the British tabloids but every now and again they get something right.

I have heard about them wanting a revamp with a David Tennant type (discussed briefly above). To be honest, the tone of some of it gives me a bit of a "going into administration" vibe.

Hadn't heard that merchandise wasn't doing well. I wonder why that is. I thought Doctor Who was always a very reliable merchandise mover.

I don't think the BBC charter allows the production side of things to care about merchandise sales. That's a separate division.

I can't wait to entertain you.
Chibnall and Capaldi should just totally ostracize casual fans and have Capaldi stay in the role for another season and anti-regenerate into the Valeyard. Would be weird and risky for the show to do, where he plays an evil version of the Doctor for a season before regenerating for real.

Jack is a Full Companion because he's awesome, and was robbed of our time together on the show. :colbert:

I just hope the regeneration isn't like the last couple. I liked them, but they are trying to top themselves with how long and drawn out they can be. I liked 10's, as maudlin as it was, and having 11 come back young for a minute and do The Phone Call was awesome and timey wimey, but you can't keep doing it bigger and better and longer. It'd be much better if it was more like the old ones this time.

Also, it occurs to me they haven't done the "NO SIR, ALL THIRTEEN! scene yet, and we should be seeing a payoff about that.

They post odds on all sorts of things, but most PredictIt style event betting is based in Europe. Vegas is quite tightly regulated. I met the guy who runs the book at Wynn and he used to post odds for Dancing With the Stars among other things but they wouldn't take bets on it.

I think some casinos are beginning to experiment with WWE betting but won't take huge massive bets on it for the usual reasons.

How the gently caress can people bet on Sports Entertainment? That's like betting on the outcome of a TV story arc or something isn't it?

Which I guess isn't so far removed from betting on who will play the next Doctor when I think about it.

Obviously, they've had English Doctors and Scottish Doctors. I don't think there's been a Welsh Doctor yet, but there was a Welsh showrunner for a good few years. Obviously, to compensate, the next Doctor will be Jamie Dornan. :v:
