I hope you know the whole story here, which is that the guy is a pro stuntman who was having a very bad day (and ended up reauditioning and landing the role)

Didn't know the whole story, good on him for making hand grenades out of the lemons life handed him.

Really? When I lived in Toronto for a few years, if someone jumped in front of a train they'd shut it down for about 20 minutes to scoop the goo off the tracks, and then started running again.

Just about anything can and will cause a train delay. One of the biggest is sick or injured passengers that require medical attention, as even when the passenger is removed from the train the conductor has to accompany them and make sure that the situation is taken care of (instead of just throwing them off at the next platform and continuing on) before they can get back aboard and continue the schedule. Especially on more isolated lines or in areas that are on more limited service already due to construction, this can totally tie up the only passage down the system in one direction.

Likewise, is there someone on the tracks? Shut down everything until you know nobody is getting run over.

Huh, guess it's different here in Chicago. Unless a train literally barrels through O'Hare International Airport it's usually only delayed a couple hours even if someone is hit and killed. Then again I'm no CTA delay expert so it may be the same thing here and I've just never experienced it.

Every now and then, someone will jump onto the tracks and gently caress up the CTA. I remember like maybe a year and a half ago, the red line was messed up for an hour because some guy at Wilson was sitting with his legs over the side of the platform and he refused to move.

ABSOLUTE FUCKING GUDGEON
The reason the trains shut down a lot in NYC is because, well....living around the trains should breed a healthy respect, but instead seems to create hubris, and people wander down onto the tracks, or fall while drunk, etc etc. This happened in my nabe this Sunday:

Driver Said GPS Led Him To Elevated Tracks, Collision With Metra Train

To clarify how this could happen, in some of the suburbs, the "elevated" tracks are accessible from the road from a very steep hill over the tracks and usually roads that are closely parallel on one or both sides. No one died, but Grandpa probably doesn't drive anymore.

Holy cow people coming out of the woodwork for this. Plus projecting, on an internet forum, well I never! I get he was trying to set the context for the snippet, but really just saying "This was an incredibly rare touchdown play (called a lateral) that never works, but worked this time, and they managed to screw up the extra point! With a dramatic reaction by the sportscaster" doesn't need that much dramatic cutaways. Somewhere else in SA the clip was linked with pretty much just that description, and I was scrolling through that video looking to see if he added anything. Not really. I've seen a few other things and they all rub me the wrong way. I'm happy to listen to David Attenborough talk about penguins farting around for two hours, but this guy couldn't make ten minutes not drag.

If they didn't shut everything down and the guy got injured he'd no doubt sue the gently caress out of them because they were aware of the danger and didn't take every precaution to keep him safe, even though he caused the situation himself.

In more complex episodes his thoroughness is to be appreciated, but yeah this one is a little light so he basically goes through the guy's entire life story and takes 20 minutes to get to "He missed."

One instance when I was in rail network control my whole line was stopped because of a disgrutled ex-employee laid traps across a few sections. The traps were simply screwing with the signal voltage across RTC controlled sections of track which blew up my console telling me there was an engine where it shouldn't be and out of rotation. That cheeky fucker held up a few hundred KMs worth of my 'line' for a while. To note - sections could be between 1km and x hundreds on freight routes. Finding where in the section the fuckwit put the tripping device was a fun one for local track crews.
