I think a better analogy would be if a bunch of bored lonely nobles were all at a Peasant who is tilling some field while occasionally tossing him a gold coin and asking him to tell him that he's a Good Duke. Some other noble asks what the hell is going on and they all yell at him "Geez Heinrich you wouldn't understand GTFO rear end in a top hat!" then they go back to ogling this peasant tediously tilling the soil while telling jokes and encouraging the nobles to come back for part IV.

They'll have their face in a little embedded screen, looking like some guest on a radio show, which, eh huh I just don't see the point. Maybe I'm just too to get it. But the only time I'm watching someone play a video game is for instructional purposes, like Scott Manley showing how to do something in KSP or someone demonstrating a neat trick in a game. But just watching them play a game? I feel like it would be more fun to be the one playing the game instead of watching someone else. But that's just me. This is how I feel about it, too. The guy that sits next to me at work is constantly watching lp's on youtube, and I don't get it. Hey, he enjoys them so whatever, but aside from a bunch of post-Jon Game Grumps videos of them playing old games, I really can't say the same for myself. Even with the GG stuff, I moreso just listen to them while working. Guy at work will be watching the latest Mass Effect or Resident Evil playthrough, and I don't know how that's fun, but I guess it is; I've asked him a few times "oh, have you played X yet" and almost always I get the same answer of "I haven't but I've seen it being played". Welp, whatever. I'm an old man and kids these days, etc. Reaction videos, though... Those are loving stupid and are for morons.

LPs with the LPer's face are a more recent thing I think, it started with youtube stuff like pewdiepie? Dunno since I've never seen one. I started watching LPs of games I'd never played or that I'd never get a chance to play, like games on consoles I didn't own or simply obscure stuff. It's great if you like background or side stuff while you're working, studying or simply high as gently caress in bed before drifting off to sleep. Stuff like Squint's Demon's Souls, RJWaters2 Parappa and Um Jammer Lammy, The Dark Id's Drakengard or Nier and all those other weird games I'd never known anything about like Chulip, Seaman, Illbleed etc. 90% of the stuff in the LP subforum is complete trash for sperglords, apart from Geop's or judge reinhold's stuff I can't recall anything in the past few years that seemed even remotely interesting or fun. it also doesn't help that a lot of LPers turn out to be either creeps or drama queens.

I've tried watching some of recent slowbeef's videos, who used to be stickler for high standards, and his output was far worse than even some of the poo poo he used to mock on RP. The LP subforum is kinda redundant for video lps because what you find there is likely to be average at best, in the context of what you can find with a simple search on youtube. I had to stop watching Slowbeef's non-RP stuff after it started having loud noises and poo poo popping up on the screen constantly. Like, I get monetizing entertainment, but at this point I'd straight up rather just watch ads, or subscribe to something like Giant Bomb where you get actual production and stuff.

There's enough content out there to not have to bother.

Game grumps guys are funny, but I enjoy the cartoons people make to match the dialogue more than them just joking around with the game on the screen. (fighting Mike Tyson and Mr. Nook's shakedown were pretty hilarious). The other thing was Game Grumps Steam Train seldom plays steam games I want to see or play myself.

Oh, I almost forgot; despite not giving a poo poo about LPs, BillyMC will always be a holiday tradition for me. Every Christmas, I watch the RP of his holiday adventure, followed closely by Pinball and Mario Brothers, both featuring The Lime Popsicle. necroid posted:LPs with the LPer's face are a more recent thing I think, it started with youtube stuff like pewdiepie? Yeah, that's one of the few hard and fast things that will still get you chased out of the subforums because there's no point to it other than being an egotistical idiot. The other big thing is "youtube dumps" ie "hey, this thread is to tell you to go to youtube and look at all my videos I've already made! Don't forget to like, share and subscribe!!" There was one mildly entertaining saga related to those rules a while back. This one dude started an account and then seemed to break every rule of the subforum, posting dumb screamy unfunny videos of himself with a facecam in the corner showing off his douchey face and attitude, and people kept making fun of him for it, and he kept trying with different games, like three times, when finally one of the Mods laid down a challenge for him to make an informative LP of chess, with consequences being a ban or immunity depending. He went silent. Everyone thought he'd been chased off with his tail between his legs, as is often the case with wannabe youtube superstars like that that come in. Then, in the very last hour of the deadline, suddenly he uploads a half hour long video of himself playing a computer chess game, and it's actually informative and well-played. And then he tossed off into the nether.

There is a fine line to walk between telling goons what you want to jerk of to constantly, and then not doing that, because it is weird. I don't know if it is a hold-over from when SA had a porn forum, or if it was the old PYF boobs, rear end and pussy threads, but there is like half a dozens emojis that are jerking off in different ways & I think it is fair to say based on the amount of smilies bought, that goons just really want to talk about Mass Effect and jerking off, and if you think there isn't a great amount of cross-over then you couldn't possibly be any more wrong.

Retsupray was the backup account because the first Retsupurae was suspended for content claims, specifically by one "Big Al" because they riffed on a few of his rant videos (which you can still find reuploaded to other channels). When Retsupurae proper returned that's when they got away from riffing on people and turned to the games themselves. It's sort of come full circle because the channel is mostly riffing on bad/weird Kickstarters these days with the occasional old, weird FMV game.
