I think the reason for cutting to the other dragons was to show the viewer how ignorant Tohru's dad was about "the possibility of invasion" *insert  scare quotes here* as he put it.Multiple dragons are already living on earth, have been coexisting/habitating with humans for months, and they're getting along with us basically fine. The world hasn't ended, and really- would it be so bad if more of them did?

I think the last episode was a bit heavy handed and could have used some lead up rather than being such a huge shift in tone, but it was still good. Looked great, too.
