My favorites are the ones who are convinced that every loss is Trump's master plan. The health care bill crashes and burns, Flynn leaves,Bannon loses his status, Nunes recuses himself, two Muslim bans blocked in court practically before they can do anything (the second before it takes effect), everyone under investigation...

And somehow it's all secretly a good thing. Trump is a brilliant strategist who can't lose, so every failure and every public temper tantrum is actually a carefully orchestrated feint to throw off the Demonrats from the real plan to do everything he ever wanted.

Trump better dang well quit listening to the neocon warmongers in the government and the world media, and the Globalist Deep State holdovers in the Intel Community.

This was obviously either a False Flag operation by Al Qaeda, or collateral damage when Syria or Russia bombed a terrorist stockpile of chemical weapons and the people downwind got a dose.

Were it an actual government attack by Assad, there would be a heck of a lot more casualties, there would be evidence.

I’m not a huge Rand Paul fan, but he has been very right and the lone sane voice in the Senate, on this, and on 0bama-Ryancare.

A lot of Freep likes Assad, or at the very least don't think he's as bad as everyone's making him out to be. See the post where one Freeper says that Assad is protecting Christians and fighting the Muslims/ISIS. So Trump attacking an "ally" against ISIS is going to upset Freep. On top of that, remember that a lot of them think Russia is great now, and Putin and Assad are big buddies, so attacking Assad is likely to get Putin upset.

There's also the fact that one of the claims they made during the election is Hillary is a warmonger and she'll get us into war, and we need to think about AMERICA FIRST and Trump won't start any wars because wars are bad for business! So Trump doing the exact thing they said Hillary would do if she was elected has really gotten to a lot of them, and they feel that this is a bad use of our military power.

"Economic anxiety." No, really. They've identified global free trade policies and international cooperation like the UN as the most significant thing harming America. Trump ran on a nationalist, protectionist, isolationist policy, according to them. They also fully recognize that the Iraq war was a horrible idea. Continuing to use US military might in this way upsets them greatly because it runs counter to a major thing that Trump was supposed to stand for.

That and all their media is parroting the Russian PR line that this is a false flag operation perpetrated by the local rebels or ISIS to frame Assad. This is the same line that /r/The_Donald and /pol/ are falling for.

At least one source says the Israelis know the plane number, the pilots name, and exactly when he took off and when he attacked.

I don't believe rumors about Israeli intel on this for a second. Perpetuating the civil war in Syria serves their purpose.

Tired of this already. Russia is playing games and Trump just called Vlad’s bluff. We can strike from anywhere without putting troops on the ground. Russia will no longer hide behind their little sister (Asaad). It’s not about Syria gassing their own. It’s all about calling out Russia. We will stop Assad and ultimately eliminate the refugee issue. The refugees invading the free world is what Putin wants. (Hint: He’s not taking any).

Nip it in the bud and if Vlad wants to face US one on one, bring it. In the meantime, if Trump is smart, soon he will be repatrioting military elligible Syrians back into their own country.

My only question is that if Trump is that smart...

Ahhh... so who exactly is the enemy? Is it Assad who, while a dictator, does protect and defend Christian and other religious minorities in Syria? Or is it the Islamist “rebels” who Obama, Hillary and McCain have armed & abetted? These Islamists were the ones cheering Trump’s bombings tonight.

Do you believe we owe absolute obedience to our leader...whether he’s right or wrong?

Unlike OBama, Trump Stands Up For The Muslim Syrian People

OP posted:

A very complicated issue. One that was ignored by President Obama during his 8 years in office. During that time Syria has entrenched itself in a seven year civil war resulting in displacing millions of Sryian refugees all over the world. President Obama's red line was ignored by the brutal Syrian President Bashar al-Assadin in 2013 when he killed more than 1,400 civilians in Syrian using chemical weapons. America was criticized for not acting as leader of the world and allowing a cancer of the globe to grow. 4/3/17: Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assadin ordered another chemical attack in northern Syria killing at least 85 people, including 20 children. This time, with President Trump at the helm, the reaction was much different. As the world watched, America responded quickly by launching 59 tomahawk missles striking the Syrian military airfield that was responsible for the chemical attack on the Syrian civilians.

I am not convinced the Syrian government launched the chemical weapons attack. Assad was winning big-time. I couldn’t think of enough motivation to use chemical weapons. Why would he draw the USA into his conflict to kill 80 or so people they could have easily killed with conventional weapons? Makes no sense.

I love how he's very careful to stipulate that none of Obama's airstrikes met this arbitrary threshold for "war" so it was okay to squabble and attack the commander-in-chief then, and he didn't deserve to be shipped off to a death camp for criticizing the president oh no.

But now Trump bombed this guy, not those other guys, so fill the gulags with crimethinkers!

OK, I'm gonna get a lot of flak for this but... I'm glad Trump did it.

I have no illusions that he gives a single solitary gently caress about syrian civilians, he did it to divert attention from the clusterfuck that is his presidency, to claim "how could the russians have helped me win if I now bombed their ally", he might even think it will intimidate the chinese. I also know that this attack won't be the thing that makes Assad start pushing daisies but I have hope it will at least make him think twice before continuing to use chemical weapons.

I'm loving sick and tired of watching children twitching and dying like they're cockroaches, I've spent more tears over dead and dying syrian kids than about everything else that happened to me in this last decade and I've been through some soul crushing poo poo during that time. Something had/has to be done and it's clear nothing will be done while Russia is running disinformation campaigns and covering Assad's rear end in the UN.

I don't want Iraq 2.0, I don't want a ground war, I don't even want a prolonged airstrike campaign but this can't go on. In an ideal world usage of chemical weapons on unarmed civilians should be met with instant devastating retaliation by anyone, I don't care who. We can't afford to have this poo poo normalized and that's exactly what's happening, outside the liberal active people there was barely any outrage in social networks this time. It was largely met with a mix of "false flag", "who can tell who's to blame" and "oh welp, savages will be savages, what do you expect". No. Just... no.

I don't think anyone's debating that action needs to be taken, Assad is rather blatantly performing war crimes here but trying to respond to force with force is going to escalate the situation and further destabilize an area that was walking on eggshells to begin with.

I admit I don't have an answer but I really don't feel like this was it.

As I said, I know this won't solve the problems in Syria, I am just hoping it will make Assad take pause before ordering further chemical attacks. I get what you're saying and I don't have any answer other than we have to decide on a case by case basis. The alternative is doing nothing like we have been doing nothing for years now and allowing these things to keep repeating, in which case we might as well stop pretending that anyone will ever be punished for slaughtering their population with chemical weapons.

I strongly and vocally opposed the Iraq war, in no small part because I knew the day would come when some tinpot dictator would use WMDs on his population and everyone would start saying "yeah, sure, remember Iraq's WMD"? Here we are.

I don't see how airstrikes against airforce bases can possibly make things worse for the people that are being gassed right now. This isn't a solution but doing nothing while this is going on is an untenable position. To me it comes off as "sure, Hitler might be gassing jews by the million but are we sure bombings really help "?

I had resisted watching videos of this attack because when I saw videos of other one in 2013 it left me severely distressed. I'm not an overly sensitive type, in fact I can reasonably be classified as an rear end in a top hat but jesus loving christ, this is the worst poo poo I saw in my life... I don't know if it will help, I just know I can't take this poo poo any more.
"Why did you watch it then?" Because I felt it was my duty to watch, that the least I owe those children is witness their suffering instead of sticking my head in the ground and go on with my life as if nothing was going on. It had the effect I expected, I've been crying for hours, I can barely function and I will never forget these images... I'm seriously hosed up right now and this is how it should be. If I can do nothing else then at least I can feel hate and voice my support for anyone that will do anything to put an end to it.

Holy poo poo, those poor children! It's moments like this that make me wish I believed in a god that would take them to paradise and punish all those responsible with an eternity of torture. loving hell... this can't go on. It just can't. :smithicide:

I know how you feel but you're running off raw emotion instead of thinking rationally. You want something to save those people so badly youll accept anything even if it doesn't really help. That's not how you save those people.

This could potentially leads to escalation that's going to cost more lives. It's not going to save those already dead and it's not going to stop Assad. If anything it's given people like him more ammo about the evil western devil and how they must fight it.
