Dolemite posted:With the voice packs, are you forced to use voice commands to trigger the voice overs? Or could I do something like turn off flight assist with the keyboard shortcut and have William Shatner say "Flight Assist Off". You do need to use voice commands to trigger those - the way they work is, Voice Attack runs off a set of key phrases bound to key/button macros. Like 'when you hear the phrase "Lady, retract landing gear, please," press the G key down, hold it for 0.1 seconds, and release the G key'. VoiceAttack voice packs are essentially just libraries of pre-programmed command phrases and macros that, in addition to key strokes, fire off sound clips included with the system. To get what you were asking for, you'd need some sort of functionality to replace the game's existing sound files with files you wanted. Little bit more involved, especially if the sound bytes in question are archived in any sort of a way - it'd be more of a mod/hack situation, rather than a separate program running alongside the Elite client.

I'm pretty happy with this for $30 and 30 minutes of work. I had planned to add some stabilizing pieces coming out of T sections on the front back and sides, but I ran out of pipe. Seems pretty sturdy even without them, so might not even be needed.

Now I need to find a db15 extension cable for my throttle, and I can route all the cables down through the pipes and out of the way.

I tried creating "spring pins" out of poly tubing but they sheared off the first time I put any pressure on them. I am surprised it took me so long to come up with the idea. Some sort of screw with big threads would thread into the PVC but I had M5 bolts from my 3D printer build and they hold together well, but there is some wiggle to them. Nice! I used unions on the two vertical arms so that I could take it apart there, and everything else is fully glued. I left some room for expansion, so I might end up making it a closed ring and mount some rudder pedals.

So I guess this might be a hard thing to quantify, but how much are CZs more effective for raising major power rank than running missions for minor powers affiliated with that same major power, if at all? EDIT: I'm trying to gain the ~1.5 Federation Ranks needed to buy the FAS. EDIT2: I own a decently kitted Vulture at the moment that can pretty easily hold its own in RES High. Medium bursts do full damage to shields anyway and the fact that the multi is Huge means that there's less damage falloff against larger ships' hulls. Against smaller ships you're going to rely on the lasers more so than the cannon, but they do respectable hull damage anyway.

If you don't mind some tedium, there's a pair of systems called Chakpa and Ochosi on the fringes of the bubble that will let you stack data delivery missions between them for quick fed rank. My recommendation would be to use the non-horizons client (so it doesn't give you missions to the planet base) and stack them at the big station in Chakpa as that way they should all take you to the single outpost in Ochosi. It'll probably only take you half an hour to get the rank you need there.

If I'm RES bounty hunting in Pikum I swap it out for another hull reinforcement package at a nearby station and then swap it back once I'm done - the scoop's only really needed when you're travelling around a bit.

Pulse lasers instead of burst, 2.) No scoop; gently caress driving this hot hog across the bubble myself, 3.) A Class 4 biweave shield, along with a pair of Class 5 and Class 4 Shield Cell Boosters. Okay so maybe it's not all that similar. Anyway, I'd always been resistant to using shield boosters, just because fighting isn't really my bag to begin with, and I didn't want an extra complication giving me even more opportunities to screw up. Turns out it's actually pretty manageable and fun. The (heavily engineered) Class 4 shield holds up well, and the shield boosters give me three chances to recharge before needing to turn tail (heat sink ammo mod is a must). I've been working a High Intensity Combat Zone for the current CG, and nine times out of ten, I'll run out of multicannon ammo waaaaaay before I run out of shields. All in all it's a fun ship (now that I have every piece of it engineered to a shine), and it's probably the most I've enjoyed combat in Elite so far.

I left Quince, decided to get the hang of the new Conda in one of the Gandii CZs for the current CG. I tell you what, all of a sudden your repair bill can easily leave you no better off; current 50% CG goal is like 4mil, I just accidentally laid some friendly fire on one CMDR in a 3 Corvette wing (in the Mobius group where you're meant to not shoot other players, hey it was an accident) and managed to jump out with like 30% hull and two mil in repairs. Plus side, I like the NPC fighter pilots you can launch, they can pack a punch and act as a distraction.

I read somewhere that people use an AFMU for the "big three" ships because it works out cheaper than repairing in station. Never tried it myself.

AFMU doesn't repair hull damage, it only fixes modules. Could still be useful, but you'll need to head to a station sometime.

This is probably the most important thing in the patch notes to make sure you don't miss: • Changed the exponent of the curve used for shield resistance from power distributor pips to make it less harsh. 0 and 4 pips are unchanged, middle values now have a higher damage resistance. Specifically changed from 2->0.85, which means that 2 pip has an increased damage resistance from 15%->33% (0 pip stays at 0%, 4 pip stays at 60%). This change means that the TTL (Time To Live) increase of each additional half-pip is approximately the same, rather than almost nothing to start and spiking up towards the end, hopefully allowing players to use setups other than 4-SYS with less penalty. Does not affect CQC ships

Getting used to a HOTAS after playing with a 360 controller forever is weird as hell lol. Basic stuff like landing and going through the mail slot feels more difficult, but doing that dogfighting maneuver where I turn off flight assist and flip over by throttling in reverse and pivoting hard with the help of vertical thrusters is like trivially easy now? I'm gonna try and get some practice in at a low RES to get my bearings on actually fighting with this thing.
