I have beaten the game, AMA. Spoilers for stray thoughts, don't mouse over it until you've beaten the game idiots: It took me 80 hours. Probably closer to like, 90 after resets. I was around level 72 when I fought the final boss, so several characters didn't have their final skills. My final party was Ryuji, Makoto, Haru, and Trumpeter/Satan. Final boss theme was pretty dull. Come on, after the absolutely phenomenal Rivers in the Desert with Shido and the Holy Grail, that's what we're going with for the final fight? I dated Futaba 'cause she's cool. All the other girls were cool too, but I'm no cheater. I liked the English VA for everyone. Shoutouts to Goro's for absoluly nailing his voiceclips in his Loki form. Speaking of Goro, I won't say he being the traitor was unexpected, but I figured the twist would be that he wasn't the traitor, so. Baal's av made me laugh when I went back to look at it. I did react when he mentioned the pancakes, but didn't really think too much about it. Fair enough to have the drugs make the MC into an unreliable narrator. Evil Igor was fun, glad they did that. Nyarlathotep?!?!?!?!? Yaldabaoth was fine for a final boss, but I guess it was the music that made him feel a bit lacking. Best final boss Persona upgrade though. The Casino had the best dungeon music in the series, holy poo poo the funk. Ryuji was awesome to start with, but he never really grew. He never loving apologized to Mona either, the gently caress dude, I really wanted to punch him at that point. Almost as much damage as the MC though which is no mean feat. Ann, hilariously enough, turned out to be the most Chie of the group. Both of them really became less important as the story progressed. Morgana was pretty okay, basically Teddie 2.0, so better, but not my favorite. Sat in the backseat to heal everyone but I had to call him in a few times to heal the party when Makoto wasn't enough. Makoto was loving great, I like her place in the story and her growth, her skills made her an excellent jack of all trades, and she never fell off in terms of either gameplay or story. I turned out to really like Haru, she was cool and funny and sweet. She wasn't quite as versatile as Makoto and wasn't really all that important but hey. Goro best boy. Whoops, I forgot to write my thoughts on Yusuke, which I guess could tell you my opinion about him. I didn't much care for him. Sorry, I know many think he's great, but I didn't find him engaging in either a story or gameplay perspective, and Mercer didn't do anything particularly special with the role. I played it on Normal, and I found the difficulty to be "good" for me. It's not a particularly difficult game; I never died on any boss fight and most of my deaths happened because of, well, bad luck. You get so many outs later in the game that it's actually really difficult to die even when you mess up. The game's at its most difficult when you try to go through the first dungeon in a single day (which I did, go me). Main character death is still game over, and it's really the only time it's gonna happen. Again, though, didn't play it on Hard so I couldn't tell you. You do need some "skill" to the game, but it's mostly trying to keep buffs and debuffs up. I hated SMT4s battles because they were way too feast or famine, and this game gives you a lot of opportunities to bounce back in straight fights, so I dig it more. But then I'm not really all that into difficult stuff. But no, it's not a particularly "difficult" game, and I beat every dungeon in a single day whenever that was possible.

I gotta sacrifice an entire day to go to Momentos so that I can do the request for Fortune but I don't wanna. Or I could just leave her poo poo forever and do it when I have a stack of requests. Decisions decisions. I'm already salty as gently caress (no pun) about giving her 100k when I could have gotten two invigorate 3 accessories out of that which would be stupid useful in the long run. Not a fan of how this link is gated.

I've just gotten to July and the obvious antagonist players are all starting to make themselves more known and present in the story now, so it seems like it probably starts amping up around then somewhat. I spent ~thirteen and a half hours straight playing this yesterday. Very powerful game. Ryuji is boring, Ann and Morgana are great, Matt Mercer is neat but also kind of boring, I can't wait for more party members to show up.

Seems like you want to get Sun to rank 2 and no higher if you just want to farm monies as much as possible. The red choice that pops up at rank 3 is detrimental. You want to press for money once and all out attack if it's not a large amount, if it is a large amount press for money until it doesn't work. Also make sure you get the money reading for palace days. It's not a massive loss of money to rank Sun up but 3 isn't what you should shoot for for money. It's worth ranking Sun up anyway on a first playthrough because in addition to the boost to Sun personas (actually there aren't many of these, I had to look up how to fuse the lowest level one out of a Pixie and a Hua Po) it's free Charm every time, and you need that for Death, Priestess and probably something else too.

The plot is definitely dragging itself through July. Lots of hinting at things and cutscenes with people on phones to mysterious people then cut back to kids getting more self confidence or whatever for a few more weeks. Also at this point I think Ryuji is going to no longer be content to simply yell in public and will show up in August with custom made Phantom Thieves team jackets for you all to wear around. Also everyone not officially in the cool kids club, or at least on the periphery, is the worst possible human being on the planet. Momentos should be nothing but wall-to-wall bosses featuring everyone in the drat city at this rate. The thing where the whole party dies if Joker dies, even if you have Revive items in inventory, is straight up rear end. It makes the enemy's apparently-random target selection become critical to party survival. Also, for the first palace, has the plot been changed/censored from the Japanese? It's bizarre that the latter half of the dungeon is overtly sexual (as in "FFS I'm fighting a severed penis head that's called Torn King of Desire") but in fact there's no suggestion Shiho was raped - just beaten up - and the coach's final confession had nothing to do with sexual mistreatment.

I can see gifts in shops but I've never gotten a tutorial about using them so I assumed they were gated or something. But I've just finished the 3rd palace and still haven't gotten any indication that I can use them yet. Are they only for later ranks in slinks or should I buy some now?
