It goes right in the Compendium. It's also relatively cheap to resummon, at a little over 4000 yen.

I don't know if it's true or not as I told him to stop and he thankfully did but really bummed me out. I haven't gotten him yet but I had him, Yusuke or Haru painted as possibilities in my head and there goes that.

I'm also curious, is there a full year to this game? I'm somewhere in October and kinda hoping there's a lot more to go.

That's only one of many endgame twists and the game ends in december, so you're not far off from the game dropping a ton of its stuff on you.

Rakukaja prior desperation mode, Guard, hope for the best. It's a really annoying fuckin gimmick, but it's the only thing it has otherwise you just run over it after that attack.

Usually there will be 1 turn when you can do damage, and 1 turn where you'll need to Guard against whatever attack the boss is using.

Pretty standard Persona stuff. It's a weakness the series has had since Persona 3, honestly--it takes a good while before the game really "starts." Persona 5 is better than 3 or 4 in that regard, I think, but it still takes some time to get off the ground. (Edit: Now that I think about it, Persona 1 took ages to get off the ground, too, and I haven't played Innocent Sin. Maybe Eternal Punishment is the only one that gets you a Persona and into some dungeon crawling at a good pace, as far as I know.)

You'll be turned loose pretty soon but you should expect new mechanics to keep being added (and tutorialized) for a good, long while. In general once Ann joins, I'd say the game has officially "started," though, because that's when you start to actually have free time and can decide how to spend it and how to tackle the dungeon.

Is he Judgement like he was in P3 and P4? If so, here's the things that fuse into that:

Empress + Lovers
Sun + Emperor
Heirophant + Tower
Justice + Lovers
Star + Sun
Judgement + Judgement

So if you fuse the two things above and their average level is closest to Anubis', you'll get him. If you fuse the next two highest Judgement personas they fuse down into Anubis as well. I'm basing this on how fusion worked in P4, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

KNEEL BEFORE THE WICKED KING!
Average level has to be less than/equal to the base level of whatever you're trying to make. If it's over by even half it goes to the next demon of the race/persona of the arcana. That's how it works in (almost) every other game anyway; the ones that don't do that have some weird arcane extra nonsense to it.

I think the P5 tutorial time is way worse than P4's or 3's because they give you a second of actual gameplay before throwing you into three hours of people being lovely and dunking on you for no reason.

Makoto has been known to be Best Girl since before release. It's just scientific fact.

These SP accessories just keep making the game run in the fourth palace. Even grinding in the third and abandoning the usual physical->heal bit I gave up grinding long before then SP reserves ran dry. Given when you unlock it the SP restore mechanic feels like a (not as good) equivalent to P4G's Victory Cry.

I enjoy the amount of different cuts we get and scenes we see. Like just night, I saw the scene with the SUI Director watching Madarame's confession, Makoto and Sae at home together and then Goro and Makoto crossing paths at their cram school. Just a lot of good "antagonist" perspectives as we see the police respond to the Phantom Theives and learn more about three huge players in the story, Sae, Makoto and Goro.

The last one almost has a Persona 4 analogue with Naoto and Kanji meeting early on, but the Goro and Makoto scene is a lot more interesting because of them trading barbs and feeling the other out in a way that is ramps up to antagonistic pretty fast.

Just a lot more layers to the narrative as opposed to past games. Overall it really feels the writing team got a lot better in this game and I'm real happy about that

i got bored and decided to do full reviews of the party members. im not spoiling any of this because they're all on the box and if knowing ryuji learns deathbound at level 47 ruins the game for you, then, im sorry

also these stat growth things are based off my file and there's some amount of RNG when it comes to level ups so they might be inaccurate.

RYUJI

Arcana: Chariot
Persona: Captain Kidd (Strong against Electric, Weak against Wind)
Skills Learned:
Stat growth: Highest Strength and Endurance, Lowest Magic, below average Agility, Average Luck. 1st in HP, 7th in SP.

Ryuji does one thing, and that is hit dudes in the face. Every skill he learns is an upgrade to hitting dudes in the face. He has no utility beyond picking up his strength stat and smacking someone over the head with it, except maybe Matarukaja if you don't want your MC to handle that. However, he is amazing at hitting dudes in the face. He has so much HP and Defense that even with him beating people to death with chunks of his own HP, he'll never be in any real danger of dying beyond five enemies all targeting him with wind spells, and he's so strong that even his basic autoattacks and gunshots are legitimate options if he does end up running a little low. He's the one early game party member who doesn't suffer an existential crisis when Makoto pops up in terms of gameplay relevance, and if he just stayed the same all the way to the end, he'd be one of the best party members.

But he decides to learn charge, and he goes from one of the best party members to oneshotting midbosses. The amount of damage he can do with an attack buffed charged God Hand almost feels like cheating. There is no party member that does as much damage in the endgame as Ryuji, and it's not even close.

Early Game: A
Mid-Game: B+
End-Game: SSS

MORGANA
Arcana: Magician
Persona: Zorro (Strong against Wind, Weak against Electric)
Skills Learned:
Stat Growth: Above Average Magic and Agility, Average Strength and Luck, Lowest Endurance. 7th in HP, 2nd in SP.

Morgana is the game's dedicated healer, and that's all you really need to know about him. He's essential for the early game in every way. He can be somewhat replaced by Makoto once she joins, at least for general use, but with the game's party swapping features there's no reason you shouldn't be getting lots of use out of his larger SP pool and earlier learn times for the higher ranked heal spells, and unlike Makoto he learns the revive spells, which definitely gives him an edge over her in dire straits. However, one thing worth noting about him is that he isn't also the game's best magical nuker like Yukiko was - both Ann and Makoto outshine him pretty heavily in that regard. He still does okay damage with his spells, but he should pretty much always be healing unless you need to hit a wind weakness.

Lucky Punch and Miracle punch are useful for midbosses and special monsters that aren't weak to anything, but they're hardly consistent. Still, they're a unique niche and useful enough that they make him relevant beyond just healing, though only barely.

Early Game: A+
Mid Game: B+
End Game: B+

ANN:
Arcana: Lovers
Persona: Carmen (Strong against Fire, Weak against Ice)
Skills Learned:
Stat Growth: Highest Magic, Low Strength and Endurance, Average Agility and Luck. 6th in HP, 1st in SP.

Ann is incredibly useful in the early game, when midbosses and Mementos bosses are more vulnerable to status effects and she's your only real magic user that isn't busy healing. But then Makoto joins, and enemies start resisting status effects, and she decides that the solution to this problem is freaking Ambient Aid. Her huge SP pool and the fact that she learns the single target heals means you can pull her out in safe rooms to top everyone off then put her back on the bench, but if Yusuke's outshone from the moment he joins, Ann just flies off a cliff. She picks up a little towards the end of the game, when she grabs Fire Amp and Inceneration - it doesn't cost that much more than Makoto's Atomic Flare, even with it being AOE - but she's still hard to make that strong a case for when Makoto accomplishes about the same thing and with other things going on. It doesn't help that enemy buffs aren't nearly as common as they were in Persona 4, so Dekaja isn't as useful for her as it was for Yosuke. She's important in the early game, but everything after the 2nd palace is pretty much a wasteland for her, with only a slight improvement towards the end.

Early Game: A
Mid Game: C-
End Game: B-

YUSUKE:
Arcana: Emperor
Skills:
Persona: Goemon (Strong against Ice, Weak against Fire)
Stat Growth: Above Average Strength and Agility, average Magic and Endurance, Below Average Luck. 4th in HP, 6th in SP.

Yusuke is kind of to Ryuji what Chie is to Kanji, only without the midgame uselessness and also without, uh, all the things that made Chie good. His physical damage is alright, but he'll pretty much always be outpaced by Ryuji, and his magic is pretty irrelevant since he doesn't learn Amp skills. He has a niche since he learns more AOE skills than Ryuji, and he's a warm body in the midgame, but towards the endgame he's in the running for 'party member most likely to be totally forgotten.' Even Ann at least has her enormous SP pool to work with. Pretty much his only niche is that his Phys skills cost way less HP than Ryuji's, so he can be useful for dungeon crawling and then swapped out for Ryuji for boss fights. Overall, there's nothing really wrong with him, and in a vacuum he isn't even that bad, but he's outclassed from the moment he joins and never really steps out from Ryuji's shadow.

And then Ryuji learns Charge, and Yusuke goes from outclassed to completely irrelevant.

Early Game: B+
Mid-Game: B
End-Game: B-

MAKOTO:
Arcana: Priestess
Skills:
Persona: Johanna (Strong against Nuclear, Weak against Psy)
Stat Growth: Above Average Magic and Endurance, Average Strength and Luck, Below Average Agility. 2nd in HP, 4th in SP.

Makoto's good, but she suffers a real problem of being halfhearted about a lot of the things she does. It takes her ages to learn her healing spells compared to Morgana, she just gives up on physical skills almost immediately, and her high end spells come rather late. She's a very useful party member anyway, and a better magic nuker than Ann - Ann has better SP and Magic, but Ann's highest end spell is multi-target, which is mostly useless since you'll be saving it for boss fights anyway. Makoto's got way more utility, too, since she can pinch heal even with how delayed her tiering up in that regard is. And her physical stuff is useful for the dungeon and a half where it isn't severely outdated.

Early Game: A+
Mid-Game: A
End-Game: A-

HARU:
Arcana: Empress
Skills:
Persona: Milady (Strong against Psy, Weak against Nuclear)
Stat Growth: Above Average Luck, Strength, and Magic, Below Average Agility and Endurance. 5th in HP, 3rd in SP.

Haru's a weird grabbag of things that other party members don't get, and things that are even rare on your Personas. Gun-based damage on skills? Sure. Reflectors? Yep. Whatever the hell Rainy Play is supposed to be? 100%. Even Psy damage is a little weird in how it works, what with the mental ailments buff. Some of these things are better than others, and she can actually do decent damage with the gun skills if you fully dedicate her to them, but the real prize jewel is the reflector skills. Those things are godsends against most of the bosses in the game after she joins, and practically mandatory for the bonus boss. She also has the only full aoe gun in the game, which can be very useful since so many enemies are weak to guns. She lacks any real dedicated purpose, overall, but just those two reflector skills alone would secure her a spot on the time, so everything else is just icing.

Mid-Game: B-
End-Game: A

GORO:
Arcana: Justice
Skills:
Persona: Robin Hood (Strong against Bless, Weak against Curse). 3rd in HP, 5th in SP.
Stat Growth: He's Good At Everything

Do you hate the idea of playing video games? Do you wish you didn't have to do that? Then you'll love Goro, who destroys everything in the game! He has physical damage, he has instant kills, he has both bless and curse damage covered, he's the only party member with almighty damage, he has the best debuff in the game - the only thing he can't do is heal and buff, and even then he has Samarecarm. His only weakness is that all his skills are extremely SP intensive and his SP is not especially high. And he lacks much to do against bosses before he gets his debuff - his single target damage is hardly bad, but he's outpaced by Makoto, Ryuji, and Ann. Still, he's far and away the best party member for most any occasion, especially Mementos runs. Other party members do certain things better, and he lacks the niche uses of Haru, but he makes wide swaths of the game a total cakewalk.

End-Game: A+
