I'm all for people playing the way they want, with the guide or without it. There is no right or wrong decision as to use the guide. Different people have different goals/playstyles and everyone must make the choice themselves. Everyone should just have fun and play they way they want. This game is good.

Meanwhile I've maxed Anime Bernie Sanders, Doc Gothula, and Becky. Gun Dad is at Rank 8 too.

A replay of this would probably be dramatically shorter on account of being able to fast-forward through the intro and stomp all random encounters under your foot like a laughing god, but "shorter than 80 hours" isn't a high bar to clear. Still probably going to do it at some point.

Was coffeedad's link gated behind beating the third palce to get it up to rank 3 or does he normally just take a shitton of hanging out with and making coffee to get from 2 to 3?

Coffee dad isn't locked at third palace but he is dealing with some poo poo and so you get only minimal points from hanging out with him or making coffee, and yeah it makes it take ages to rank him up. He does stop at rank 4 until dungeon 4 is done but after that getting new ranks becomes a lot quicker and the kindness boost gets bigger as well. I'd say it's worth it though because he is a very good Dad with good coffee facts and you should be buds with him.

Are guns worth it for damage at all? Up through the second Palace I haven't upgraded my guns at all because I only use them to knock down enemies who are weak to gun.

If you just unload your entire clip into a guy you can deal pretty decent damage, and since it's multiple attacks per round there's a good chance you'll get a crit. I don't think it'll ever set the world on fire or anything though, but after starting the Iwai link you can upgrade your basic guns to pretty high levels with minimal costs. So I've been doing that and it doesn't seem to be too bad an investment.

For most people they're just an extra damage type/crit attempter/status effect inducer, but Ryuji and Haru can tear poo poo up with their guns. Especially Haru, geez.

Also the first dungeons in these games are usually pretty tough just because you dont have access to a lot of your tool set, like the ma- spells which make life a lot easier. Ill run away from a fight before I have to cast bufu five times just to get the AOA

So all of sudden during Palace 4 I can't continue asking for money during a hold up? Is it because I advanced Sun to rank 5? This is real frustrating, why? Before I could ask, then either press for more or go all out. Now its just money and they run off.

They just do that sometimes, it's nothing to do with ranking up Sun. The only time they're guaranteed to run off is if the initial option is red (which also gives you more money anyway.)
