I've rode I-10, skirting thunderstorms, from Fort Stockton to San Antonio on a Ulysses (which comes equipped with headshake from the factory)... maybe I've lived but I still don't love it. Anyhow, I have a friend with a Ultra Classic (same fairing) and he always complains about how it will just start shaking.

I still don't see a lot of Harleys I'd like to own, but if this can be the general American Cruiser thread for a bit, the new Indian Scout is hotter than hell.

New Scouts are pretty slick. My '48 was nice and had me convinced I should upgrade to a V-Rod of some flavor, but oh well.

I think there's enough love for Indians of every era that, maybe with an effortpost OP, a Indian thread could probably stand on its own. Not backseat modding, just some words of encouragement if there's an Indian enthusiast reading this.

Dual disc front brakes, for starters. Probably took care of the brake fade issue. It's a slick bike on paper.

So I got to see and sit on the new Road King Special yesterday. It's a real good looking bike. It doesn't sound very mean, but I think it's my next bike.

Sold my DRZ and got a 2016 883 road couch. I've actually fallen on love with it and put more km on it in 3 days than the last 3 months of the DRZ (comfortable seat helps). PO has put on 12" apes, 11" slammed shocks, V&H short shots, SE heavy breather and a SEST so I've saved myself all the parts and labour costs for those (plus get all the stock parts sold with it). My fiancée graciously let me get the finance for it, but now wants to be able to ride pillion. Any recommendations for shocks high enough to deal with 180kg combined weight, and a good two-up seat? Budget conscious preferred of course. I've been thinking of slowly buying parts to lift it (15" Burly Stilettos and ebay tracker bars) into a bit of meaner ride down the track (ie 2-3 years time).

alternately: keep the slammed shocks, buy your boo an MSF course and a Rebel

Been offering, but she has absolutely no interest in being in control of the vehicle. Otherwise I'd have gotten a cheaper/older bike and had enough left over for her own. Housemate said I could possibly use the stock shocks I got in a box and would just need a two up - sound about right for that weight?

I ran road king shocks on my sportster and they were great for 2-up. Added about 10 psi when riding 2-up and no air when solo. You can find take offs online for $50. You just have to shim them out with a couple washers to fit.

I rode an Indian Scout Sixty yesterday. I really liked it. Now I'm stuck between trading in my 03 Road King birthday bike on a new RKS or buying the Scout and just having two bikes. Ugh, decision paralysis is real. It's a 16 Scout Sixty with 350 miles on it and the lady only wants $7,800 for it.

I have a 2003 Road King and rented a 2014 Road King in Daytona Beach last week. I'd always been told how much better the new frame 2008+ touring bikes rode as if it were night and day difference. I couldn't tell a difference at all. The brakes were better and the 6 speed was very nice but the ride was very similar.

You can rent one for half a day at Midwest Cycle for $65. They open at 10 so your hangover will just be wearing off. Go rent one and ride "the loop" north of Daytona. It's only about a 50 mile ride and scenic and awesome. Return the bike by 5 and go tie one on and eat more oysters on the half shell...

TBH I don't have any idea how motorcycle rental places stay in business, even with rates like that. How many miles do you think a $18,000 rental Harley bagger goes before it's totaled?

I didn't realise at the time but the box of poo poo they handed me was all the PO stock parts, including the original 13" H-D shocks and pillion seat. Going to try to lift the bike and swap them in from the Burly 11", and attach the pillion seat. Ordered some pillion pegs off eBay to fit the newer model with ABS on the cheap. Have been absolutely loving the ride still, and literally the only thing I want to change is purely cosmetic to get a custom laser engraved derby cover. Learning to split and filter all over again has been good and bad - the wider than standard forward reach controls (I think DK Customs?) have had to be folded up sometimes, but bar height is such an improvement from the DRZ400SM which was always at the perfect mirror height to have to play Twister through close cars. It turns out the PO had overtightened the right peg and it didn't fold up, so that was backed off which will help on any low cornering too I'm sure.

Bit the bullet and bought a 2011 Heritage Softail Classic! I'm in the "take stuff off" phase. After removing the TomTom GPS, highway "pegs", speakers, next is the passenger backrest. Question: to get the passenger backrest off, do I need to take off the entire back fender?? Doesn't look like I can fit a tool into the bottom bolt, because the fender is too close.. Edit: that top bolt looks like it's been mangled a bit already. And is this what I should be using? epswing fucked around with this message at 19:13 on Apr 23, 2017 |

Yes. It's torx and they strip easily. Go slowly and apply some pb blaster and let soak before you try.

Can't you just remove the seat and take the bracket off the bike and then unscrew the torx if you can't leave the whole bracket off?
