I think you should look into a different ship if you want 40ly. By the time you achieve that in a Python you'll be flying an empty hull.

That's no criticism of the Python, just don't expect it to be leggy AND useful.

Is there any way to swap a frameshift modules between ships? My asp already has pretty close to a maximal engineered FSD, and I don't have much in the way of materials to get my Diamondback explorer done, but they have identical drive sizes.

Yes. If they're the same size, you can definitely pull the FSD from your Asp and then transfer it into your DBX. Go to the FSD in Outfitting and search through the Transfer/Storage options. You'll need to be able to afford (at least) the cheapest, shittiest possible FSD for your Asp when you transfer the good FSD out; you can't leave empty core slots in a ship.

edit: Make sure both ships are at the same station, or you'll have to do an extra step of transporting the module. Also make sure you're storing the modded FSD and not selling it, because that would suck.

Yup just store the module. Swap to your other ship and mount the engineered one.

If they're in different locations you can just ship the module for some fee and wait for it to arrive.

^
^Yep. You can also transport a module size smaller on some ships, should your circumstances dictate.

I remember temporarily using my Anaconda with 6A Thrusters for reasons of moving the module to Maia. I was surprised that it didn't feel much slower, but that's probably because the default 7E module was so tedious.

I guess it depends what you decide useful means. Mine's doing 36.7 unladen right now and I haven't yet been able to engineer lighter-weight components on all the modules that support them. I'm not sure that will get me where I want to be but I'm at least going to try.

The DBX makes for a fun little sightseeing ship. Especially when combined with a FSD boost and it doing 60LY single jumps.

The Dolphin is also pretty fun, granted not as long range (can only get it to around 40 or so LY).

For what it's worth, I was at Juri's joint last night and he offered me Tier 5 upgrades for Sensors/Surface Scanners. Maybe an oversight, or a last minute tweak to help people get caught up?

Just grind out a million combat bonds (one of the Engineers screens says 100,000, but it's still 1,000,000), head over to Pater's Memorial with a fat pile of iron to grind rep, and be done with it.

Considering you'll spend most of your time in flight waiting to get in range I'm going to go with "range".

But ultimately "neither" because the flight time to get to a particularly interesting unexplored world can be pretty significant. I wouldn't worry about it personally, so long as you've all the power you need and a level 5 FSD.

It wouldn't be so bad if they were consistent about fixing stuff but for every example of them fixing something quickly there's another bug they've left in for months. It could always be worse though - there's apparently a bug on the xbox version where using multicrew breaks the game so it won't even load the main menu anymore. :psyduck:

Yeah, I bet on range; we'll see how it goes during my next expedition.

It is kind of nice how you can offset the extra weight of a modded surface scanner with lightweight sensors.

I'm still only at 52ly with this DBX, though, with lightweight, undersized, etc. everything. I think I might need to head back to Felicity and see if I can get a better roll on the FSD.
