Entropic posted:Hello new Modern Burn staple that possibly competes with or even replaces Eidolon of the Great Revel. Eidolon is great because if you play it on turn two and the opponent cannot answer it or kill you the next turn they're going to lose, and even if they do answer it you trade cards and still deal 2 damage. If you cast Harsh Mentor and they just Bolt or Push it, you didn't gain anything. Burn will keep playing four Eidolons, and will probably play some number of Mentors, but it won't replace the Eidolon.

I definitely don't think it replaces any number of Eidolon, they're still better for guaranteeing damage. Could replace Lavamancer though, he's gotten worse lately. The new guy is much easier to play around than Eidolon.

Calling it now: Bolas made the barrier because he also set up some kind of lure to attract monsters to the cities in order to keep people in controlled spaces. Seems like something he would do.

Hard to block and provides a decent clock if you're reliably turning him on (perhaps in some sort of aristocrats-style deck), but I can see plenty of games where he hits the table and does very little. Definitely on the ineffectual side for a splashy mythic.

Holy gently caress is that card not even remotely pushed. You can't even kill an opposing creature to attack? The sac outlet costs two mana? Wow. Just wow. That card just isn't playable. Would you even play it in Limited? His sac doesn't even draw a card! It only scrys 1! How did this card end up so dang weak?

By the way, props to Wizards for getting away from their incredibly formulaic planeswalkers designs lately. Gideon and Nissa are neat and even Liliana is probably above average in interestingness.

No, I sincerely like him. He's got a bunch of synergies you can play around with. For example, here's a dream curve to make him swing on turn 4: Dread Wanderer, Hapatra, Bontu, Crocodile of the Crossing. -1/-1 on Wanderer to kill it, poop out a snake token and activate Bontu. Swing with Bontu and Croc for 9.
