Is anyone else getting this?

The taskbar on the second monitor (happens on either) floats up when set to auto hide.
Still happens when updated to the latest Nvidia driver.

Using the latest drivers with Creators Update installed.

Good call -- looks like the files in question are in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\AppRepository, namely StateRepository-Deployment.srd and StateRepository-Machine.srd. Googling that leads to more promising results, but fixing this seems like more trouble than it's worth...

Figured out the taskbar thing. It was something left over in my user profile. Making a new profile fixed it.

Look At This!!! WOW!
It's F*cking Nothing.
Yay! Issues after the Creators Update, two of 'em.

First one is a "COM Surrogate has stopped working" error message. Happens every time I open my Start Menu

My Event Viewer also shows these when it happens, can't make sense of them though.

Second issue is just a "wondering if it's just me thing" about the Wireless Display Media Viewer app.

My icon for it is blank

And trying to load this app (I don't even know what it is, what is it?) is also blank

Should note that I'm on a desktop, wired, so anything "Wireless" does not really apply to my setup, is that why it's bugged maybe? Maybe related to the COM Surrogate issue?

that's because the app is non-functional yet. it probably doesn't have a logo yet. this is a known "issue" to Microsoft but they're not going to do anything until the app is ready to roll out. I'm sure it will be fixed in one of the coming cumulative updates

While it remains to be seen whether they do any more to adjust that, deferring the update does allow you to handle it on your own schedule, which was part of the complaint.

Not to mention that, with some extra time, we can hope some of these bugs will get squashed.

On the other hand one of the things they claim to be changing is exactly making sure your settings etc. get preserved properly. It may be that is requires first doing some updating that will destroy settings however, I'm not sure. Someone above complained that their installing Creators Update reset a bunch of thing, but my own upgrading a slow ring insider build had barely any effect. Which is what makes me think that some change that got introduced partway through the development between Anniversary and Creators changed settings to a format that can be migrated, but only after an initial destructive update.

Yes, buy a Windows 10 Pro upgrade license, just like you'd do from 7 Home to 7 Pro.

You ain't getting it for free if that's what you're asking, because you apparently didn't start from a Pro version of 7 or 8 which would have given you 10 Pro on install.

As far as safety goes, is Edge actually better than Firefox now because the former is done in a sandbox? Or are they both the same at least? Thinking of test-driving Edge for a week or two and seeing how it goes on the usability front.

Also is there a ublock/ublock origin extension for Edge yet? I dont see it on the app store. It looks like Adblock and Adblock Plus are garbage (which are listed) are garbage compared to uBlock Origin.

Technically this is some other guy with modifications for Edge to make uBlock Origin work, but gorhill (the uBO guy) is fixing Edge compatibility things in his main repo, so it is sort of official as well.

Uh... Kupo?

Edge, for me, is perfectly fine and better than competitors if you care about battery usage. I use it on all my PCs. It has nice features, like a "set aside" function for tabs that I would use if my internet usage was being monitored at work, or you wanted to hide poo poo from your professor in school. It also lets you sync to your Microsoft account and since I use a surface and a PC, that helps. You can also tell it to clear your poo poo whenever you close the browser which is nice if you, like me, don't want your history tracked for when your friend/wife inevitably goes on your computer.

uBlock works, and is found here: (https://www.microsoft.com/en-nz/store/p/ublock-origin/9nblggh444l4). It's not able to be found through a search on the Store because it's not technically released, it's a beta/preview. You can also download the GitHub version here.

That being said, I'd recommend not using it because some websites (like pornhub for example) don't work with it, it tries to download a .htm file when you navigate to the URL. In my opinion, the Adguard extension is better for adblocking in Edge, though, and you don't get those problems.

Firefox is still better for privacy I think, but supposedly they're going to release a tool to convert chrome apps to edge extensions or something soon enough, so you'll be able to use NoScript etc. if you care about that stuff. And then, finally, Edge is superior to me because it has better scrolling performance and (usually) better media playback than the competitors. Especially Chrome as far as scrolling performance goes.

Well guess the taskbar thing is an actual bug. Be nice if someone can confirm it.

Have two monitors with the taskbars set to hidden.
Go into Personalisation -> colours -> Turn off transparency effects.
Check taskbar on second monitor, for some reason there will be a small strip of gap if transparency effects are off.

There's always been issues with the second monitor taskbar for a good while on 10, before it wouldn’t auto-hide.

This update made me cry. Besides wiping all my settings- anyone using a Logitech G602 and the forward and back mouse buttons are no longer recognized in games without reassigning them to keystrokes (which makes them quit working as forward/back in browser)? I know I can build a bunch of profiles and poo poo, but I dont want to do that- it worked fine without tinkering before this update. I updated to the newest version of logitech software to no avail.

That happens with other mice as well, from other manufacturers even. Like my Steelseries Rival 100.
Logitech software doesn't matter, those are standard buttons and they work without any drivers or extra apps.

What's the process for the automatic install of the Creators Update? I got the popup asking what my privacy options were, and that it'll do it's thing in the background until the install is ready.

Does that means it's getting stuff ready now, or merely at some point in the near future? Cause it's 3 hours later, and nothing else has happened so far.

EDIT: So I don't know what was happening, so I just used the update tool to force the update. Went smooth, only took about a half hour. Everything seems good so far.

I almost never fully shut off or restart my computer and just put it in sleep every night and I woke up to a blank grey screen with a cursor. After restarting it then at least had an update % text for the next 5 lightyears. I can literally not tell if a single thing has changed. I'm sure I'm missing the registry value they automatically turned back on that allows Bill Gates the blood of my first born but nothing at all that is apparent to me in regular use. I feel dumber than normal for not being able to google this, but if I layout my monitors like this:

where there is no shared line of pixels between screens, how do I get the mouse cursor from screen 1 over to screen 2?

Ghostlight
Sep 25, 2009

maybe for one second you can pause; try to step into another person's perspective, and understand that a watermelon is cursing me

The shared line of pixels is actually the corner of the screen, but because those are areas where Windows puts a bunch of icons like window closing and file menus it also sets a 'speed threshold' for the pointer to be moving at before it will allow it onto the second screen.

Just ram your pointer into the corner and it'll come shooting out on the other screen.

How long is this update supposed to take? Because mine has been sat at 24% for 45 minutes now and it took ages to get to that point. It's been updating for about an hour and a half so far. It's doing something (I hope) because the circle of dots is spinning, but I'm getting worried.

ETA: after 1hr 20 mins it jumped to 30% and it's now rebooting. At least it's doing something. This is going to take all loving night at this rate :negative:

Edit 2 Done, only took 4 1/2 hrs, wtf! That was seriously the slowest install I've ever had. I don't know if the issue was something on my computer or something on microsofts end. At least it's done.
