And since it's vaguely defined, the momentum shifts toward more radical solutions since that is what's rewarded. Let's drop a fucken MOAB bro. gently caress yeah. The incentives are there, and over time the effect is a "cumulative radicalization" (an academic term I read once) within the military. And it's going to end badly.

100% this was what I experienced as a junior O when field grade and flag commanders would start doing new types of missions and using new verbiage to emulate their bosses, while deployed, simply because it's an easy road to success. Remember, these wars are unwinable and loving pointless, so you might as well come out of it with a promotion and a boss who can count on you to brag on the kool-aid.

That honestly still looks like a ground burst, both from where the object seems to be impacting/where the explosion is centered.

But on the other hand, the way the pressure wave goes outward before everything appears to get sucked back to the center as the mushroom cloud develops...and the way that the location apparently is congruent with what the official announcement said. Meh, kinda expected something more spectacular.

Not the name of the game. It's a clusterfuck jungle special election primary. Turnout, turnout, turnout.

Ossoff can crack 50% and win the seat outright if democrats turn out and Republicans don't on Tuesday, and that's been the trend so far. If he doesn't crack 50%, it goes to a true special election, Republican versus Democrat, and it's unlikely you crack 50% if that happens.

That's why Kansas was close, the Democrats turned out and Republicans didn't. Jackson's ad is a WAKE THE gently caress UP message to the Democrats for turnout purposes.

Maybe I'm misreading it, but he's framing it like the NSA found exploits within Windows systems, use/used said exploits for their own means, then someone leaked said exploits. I can't really fault the NSA for using existing exploits.

It's just a dumb double standard to put on the NSA. Tell MS discreetly about exploits in hopes that they don't patch systems that you're currently exploiting, and big business is being co-opted by the NSA. Say nothing and keep exploits in house (which they failed at), and said exploits are now your fault. Not the developers.

brand engager
Mar 23, 2011

The normal way is to diclose the exploits to the developer privately and give a timeline for publicly disclosing it some time later (after it's been patched out). When they sit on that info so they can use it themselves they are the bad guys.

What? Why would any intelligence agency do this? Like I understand that white hat security analysts do this, but it literally makes no sense for an organization like the NSA to do it unless they believe that the extant exploits they're aware of makes their own assets more susceptible to exploitation.

also lol at the idea of the NSA being anything other than "the bad buys" when it comes to exploiting computer systems and codes to gain intelligence.

Do they take the risk to American businesses if an exploit got out into account when analyzing them, assuming they do anything like that? Doesn't that fall under national security?

I don't really know poo poo about the NSA but I was always under the impression that they were offensively oriented. The numerous leaks in the past decade all kind of corroborated that understanding to the point where I think they want access more than they care about other organizations potentially gaining access. The cyber command center of excellence whateverthefuck promotes national security by strengthening computer systems. The NSA promotes national security by breaking into computer systems. Kind of like how the CIA promoted natonal security by arming and training mujahadeen freedom fighters and the FBI promoted national security by stopping terrorists.

Seal does porn http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/military/sd-me-seal-porn-20170414-story.html

quote:

Seal did adult films, but didn't apply for authorization for second job for it.

Eight months from retirement, bosses decide to make an issue of it and investigate.

Wife is porn actor that he appeared with but he did films with two other women as well.

Wife claims that brass and colleagues knew about his work for years and there was just a tacit understanding to not mention he was a seal in the films.

Wife said she was also brought on base in 2011 to sign autographs for the troops after she had been in Penthouse. So, further saying they already knew and it's hypocritical to act like porn is something they're shocked by.

In a previous story, military women were dismissed for appearing in a nudie magazaine, while a military man found to be in Playgirl after was allowed to keep his job.

Several seals got in trouble years ago for collaborating on a seal video game without getting authorization. Issue was that they were making money off the seal name while still in service.

The wife started porn and stripping after the couple went more than $1 million in the hole on a failed real estate venture.

Wife was reluctant to keep doing porn, but found out that being recognize made it difficult to get real work. During interviews for a hotel management job, a worker recognized her and sabatoged her chances by spreading the news.
Apparently guys that watch porn are big gossips.

Wife says husband wasn't paid for his roles, but was just helping out. She has details about how actors do trades unpaid to assist each others marketing.

Navy officials said Schmidt did not fill out mandatory paperwork to seek clearance from his chain of command for work as a porn actor. The command did grant formal permission for Schmidt to sell herbal supplements as a side business.

Your argument is analogous to telling undercover cops they need to inform everyone they interact with that they are an undercover cop. In both cases disclosure is 100% counterproductive.
