Dead Reckoning posted:The only time I ever pulled out the "we are an armed force whose primary mission is to create strategic effects, most often, though not exclusively, by killing people and breaking their things, or threatening the same" was when I was dealing with some Airman from a support function who felt that things like having to learn to properly use firearms and MOPP gear was a massively inconvenient distraction from their real job of sitting around posting memes on Facebook. Exactly. Its categorically true that yes a huge purpose of the armed forces" ....is to create strategic effects, most often, though not exclusively, by killing people and breaking their things, or threatening the same". However i feel that the Air Force isnt compatible with the " RAH RAH KILL" culture of the Army and Marines. In fact you can make a solid case that trying to "out Army the Army" is why as a whole the Air force has become a big dumb gay shell of its former self. Rather, I feel that embracing more support roles of the Air Force (ISR, Cyber, MXS, AMC, the Nukes, etc) tells the whole story of the Air Forces versatility. And would moreso promote a culture of technical competency, innovation, and forward thinking that *I FEEL* is more in tune with the golden age of Air Force History. but blowing people up is what gets the funding and promotions so what the gently caress do I know

Yeah, 170k, drop those fuckers instead of throwing tomahawks at 1.41mil apiece. But it's literally just a giant tube of HE. No propulsion, passive guidance, and it needs another giant tube to drop it that costs at least a few lives if it's taken out and however much one of those specially equipped C130s runs. But one of them would be more useful over an airbase in Syria than that $100mil volley last week. The real question is, how many can we pack in our largest cargo plane capable of open rear end dropping HE shits on the world, and when can we expect to see daisy chains of them being flopped on ISIS strongholds in Iraq and Syria.

And we'd already lost one SF dude in that god forsaken poo poo valley. Training that one guy probably cost more that that moab.
