as the world turns
There was a near-stampede in NY's Penn Station today.

https://twitter.com/APEastRegion/status/853054301966618625

Turns out, it was all due to one impatient rear end in a top hat. A train got stuck between New York and New Jersey due to an overhead power problem. Well, dickfuck was all impatient and wanted to catch HIS train, which couldn't leave because of the stuck train.

So, he decided to be an rear end in a top hat and cops had to come by and tased him. Then, onlookers decided that the taser was a gun, so they yelled GUN! and everyone started screaming, yelling, and panicking.

What a mess.

SA-8 was designed in the late 60s, and has a missile range of about 10 miles and peak altitude of about 40,000 feet. It can detect targets at 22 miles. SA-20 was designed in the 90s and is still receiving upgrades, but boasts a range of 120+ miles (possibly up to 300 or so, but there's some ambiguity in whether those should be considered a different system vs an upgrade). It can detect targets around 200 miles away.

The slightly less short and lazy answer is that Soviet/Russian SAMs that use single digits (SA-1, 2, etc) are typically from the 1950s-70s. Double-digits are significantly more dangerous than the older systems they replaced. SA-20 or higher are loving dangerous. You still see a mix of just about everything in service, because the Russians were never shy about exporting SAMs. The numbers don't go in order and don't imply any relationship...for example an SA-5 is a big non-mobile long range missile designed to kill slow, fat non-maneuvering bombers. The SA-6 is a mobile short range setup intended to kill fighters and if they're lucky, a dumb bomber flying overhead. Completely unrelated. Wikipedia has good write-ups for most of these.

I honestly thought with defense contractor pricing and the low volume that a MOAB would've been like 5 mil.

Yeah it's an exceedingly cheap piece of ordinance since it's one long tapered tube with grid fins, a mil GPS, and is filled with composition H-6 which is cheap too.

The most expensive parts of the weapon system are the chutes and it's sled for the C-130 believe it or not.

The bomb itself is exceedingly cheap. Just kinda niche as gently caress though.

I'm pretty sure that the air particulate has very little to do with the carbon emissions and more to do with exhaust filtration. Harmful but not really tipping the scale on global warming.

When you're not filtering it, it doesn't matter.

Diesels don't have catalytic converters. The piss-mix system we use here in the states is more of a mist thing that's aimed at limiting oxides of nitrogen.

That stuff isn't being used in world renown shitholes. It only just came about here in the last decade. And diesel cars are also a much bigger thing worldwide than the US.
