Going to see Your Name at the theater should never be considered a last resort fun option. It should be priority #1

I decided to see Your Name based on the recommendation of a friend, and I have to say it definitely lived up to the hype. Granted, the first 1/3 or so was a bit too... anime? for my tastes, but once that plot dropped literally the movie got great and didn't let up right up through the end.

I dunno, I'm one of those rare people that don't care at all about the big theatre experience. 7/10 times I'd rather watch a movie comfortably lounging on my couch. The other 3/10 were Zootopia, obviously.

Ditto on the warning. The first 1/3 of Your Name will make you feel uncomfortable with how 'Anime' it is. Read: J-Pop and Boob touching. But once it gets over itself on how 'wacky and crazy' it's conciet is, it actually pulls off a pretty good and emotionally satisfying plot. That said, the director of the film comes off as a much more visual filmmaker than a storyteller. On the film's wikipedia it says he was disappointed with the final product, but says that the plot is fine. He more makes it sound like the animation wasn't polished to his liking, when I thought the plot and pacing could have been tightened up or giving some plot points room to breath. Not that I think it's bad or even mediocre, just flawed in specific ways.

Spark is expected to gross well under $1 million this weekend, probably $130k. It was released with no promotion on 365 theaters. It made $48k on Friday and averaged $132 or roughly 15 tickets sold per theater.

I saw trailers for Spark ahead of... something, possibly Power Rangers, I forget. It's a strong contender for the worst trailer I've ever seen. Not the trailer for the worst movie I've ever seen, mind, but just brutally effective at making me go from open-minded to "oh jesus loving christ no I will never, ever watch this."

Its one of the many regional accents you'll hear in the USA. It is of the Southern geographical region, Center-East variant. In Vernacular, Rural. Elocution; Moderate. Pitch and Timbre: Endearingly Masculine His cousin Muncie displays a similar accent, with slightly higher Elocution and pitch as typical in the south, this is a cultural bias. Darnell shares similar vernacular but a higher degree of elocution, and this is potentially because of either some level of formal education in mechanics or simply a bleed-over of his meticulousness involving machines.

Your Name was a good movie. Really glad I got off my rear end to go see it. I'm still not sure the theatre experience added much to it, but that's just me. Either way it was fun. I'm sitting there, it's getting near the end of the movie and I'm all "Hey this is neat, we're almost through an anime and there hasn't been a single gratuitous panty sho--oh wait nevermind".

Thanks for pushing me to go see that, drat. I knew literally nothing about the plot or even premise -- like I hadn't read a single article about it, other than reviews that say "go see it", for all I knew it could have been about space mechs or whatever. It was a neat change of pace knowing absolutely nothing about a movie.
