This feels like the kind of year where Nashville can break into that second tier of NHL franchises that occasionally gets national attention and really deserves more.

With a couple of notable exceptions, the Caps have looked very tentative in the offensive zone overall, passing up a lot of opportunities to shoot with clear shooting lanes and instead passing behind, usually leading to a clean breakout for the Leafs. Playoff nerves? They didn't seem nearly as shy about shooting the puck during the regular season.

Also someone apparently put a hex on John Carlson because that sequence that led to the OT winner was pretty inexplicable.

Looking forward to the Alexey Marchenko/Martin Marincin experience on Monday. Dark horse would be to call up Oleksy for some former Caps revenge but I'm pretty sure he sucks.

I'm looking at the Marlies roster for the first time ever, perusing the options at right D and...Alex Gudbranson maybe? His brother was drafted high, I think.

One of the guys doesn't even have his place of birth listed. UNKNOWN SPECIMEN.

You're thinking Erik Gudbranson, they're unrelated I think. -e- Never mind, totally brothers. But he sucks

People are talking Dermott or Holl but I don't know how bad the Leafs want to throw some of these guys into their first ever game. Valiev's probably in the ring too.

The Flames were done in by a lucky deflection tonight, however they haven't looked good against the Ducks so far at all. Maybe it changes once they get home, especially since they're a young team, but eventually they need to win in Anaheim. Stinks since they liked so good going into the postseason.

If Flames are good at home, they only need one win in Anaheim. Totally doable. They looked pretty good tonight and lost because of pretty much the unluckiest play I've seen in hockey in a while

They're totally getting swept by the Ducks again, hth.

(For some bizarro reason they really struggle against the Ducks and have done so for quite a while. I'd say they need more shitheads and sandpaper but that might be because I want them to purchase Montreal's grit and sandpaper.)

The Capitals are a joke and even if they do win this series they won't win the one that follows it. I'm so sick and tired of this same old garbage year in and year out from this team whenever they're in the playoffs. It makes the whole season seem boring and dumb when you know they're gonna fail anyway once the playoffs come in.

Yeah but the Caps do this crap all the time. Look great in the season then the playoffs come and they're several notches worse and clearly not a top team. It's just ridiculous and you'd think they'd be able to figure this out after so many god drat years. The Leafs don't do this every single year they're just usually not in the playoffs at all but now they'll have a star player to build around so they'll be around more. Their situation is different. And just you watch they'll have a cup in short order while the caps are in it 200 times and only past the second round twice in their whole history.

don't try to reason with kawalimus, the caps could be up 3-0 and he'd be talking about what a caps thing to do it would be to let a team get their backs up against the wall and have them channel the energy from a do or die home game into a reverse sweep

Look at the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks. They had long periods with no cup but they came back and then won a bunch of them putting a great team together. Toronto is another long drought team and they're gonna do the same thing. Even the Rangers won a single cup breaking "The Curse" back in 1994. Why can't the Capitals do this? Why can't we have that one playoffs we actually play real well with a great team and everyone's like "Yep, the caps were just the best this year". Even the year we won it we got lucky cause all the other top seeds got upset and then Detroit took us apart in the finals. Why can't we have that one good year? Just one is all we need.

To be fair, you don't even watch during the season so you'd really not know about this one. Also, congratulations from waking once again from your slumber ready to postulate apocalypse on your favorite team.

It might be easier and more satisfying to turn your sour feelings into something creative? Like maybe draw a ravens logo riding a caps logo and have a word ballon coming out that says "we are a farts."

Happy playoffs!

We need either better goaltending or better defence to stop their star players. Getzlaf in particular seems to dominate against Calgary. He scored the game winner in GM2 and had 2 points in game 1 (and scoered the firts goal of the series in GM 1).

Damnation. I feel like Calgary really isn't that far from being good, we just need that push that a new acquisition could offer.
