PS 4 PCMASTERRACE.JPEG What is This Game?
For the purposes of this thread, we'll be talking primarily about the multiplayer mode of the game. There is a singleplayer mode planned, but IDK why you would play that, because killing goons is just wonderful. Release Date:
This game is coming out in EARLY 2017. The term "Early 2017" has become a meme of sorts, as the definition of "Early" is a hot point of contention, especially if it winds up meaning: "August." According to the developers - release will be approximately 1 month after they complete "console certification." As of the writing of this thread (April), they are "close" to console cert - so expect the game in mid-late May. Why Should I Play This Game? For the kills. The kills are brutal and glorious and fun and you should watch some of them below, even if you'll never play this game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgVRD_-nods https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hApY8EqZ1Zw <---- skip to 1:05 Some gifs for your viewing pleasure:
Gameplay: Camp Counselors Tinfoil Papercut posted:Well now that all the kids have mysteriously left the camp - let's sit around a fire and share stories about our rampant drug use and sexual conquests. Hey, who's that behind Tiffany?
So you want to survive the night? Just power up a couple gates and run away! Haha, just kidding - if you tried that nonsense on Mr. Voorhees you'd be Dead by Daylight! First method: Vehicular
You may be fortunate enough to survive the short hike to a nearby cabin or structure! Consider yourself lucky if you made it far enough to begin looting items if it's your first game. The following list are consumables in no particular order:
Ahh good old fashion combat with Jason. Smart move kiddo! I'm sure he'll be dead for good once YOU try to kill him. Generally speaking, blunt weapons have a better shot at stunning Jason, while bladed weapons do more "damage." You may be asking questions such as "What does 'damage' to Jason do?" and "Why am I trying to fight Jason?" Good questions! Jason can be struck while he is griping another counselor and trying to line up a kill, this will break the grip and briefly stun Jason 100% of the time provided you don't hit him too early in the grip animation, or once he has started the death animation. Sometimes this window is depressingly small. Your weapons have durability, meaning they will break eventually if you hit Jason with them. Counselors with high Luck have less of a chance for this to happen. Before we move on to Jason gameplay and abilities - let's talk about important mechanics: Fear Level Tinfoil Papercut posted:The only thing you have to fear, is fear itself and also Jason.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqNmvr1PzTw If you're in a cabin, the entire cabin will glow red, but he will not be able to see where you are exactly inside. If you maintain your fear level low, you will be harder to detect this way, which is why composure is a good stat. (This also depends on the Jason, some are better than others at sensing) Other things such as radios and firecrackers, can throw off sense or throw out false noise pings. Things that raise your fear:
Things that lower your fear:
Noise Making Jason has great hearing, as he has not subjected himself to years and years of heavy metal music like the rest of us. Jason can hear noise being made based on how far he is, and how stealthy the counselor is. The minimap gives a visual cue to when you are making noise. This detection is always on. Counselors such as Vanessa make a racket - Jason can easily see the audio cues of a Vanessa. AJ, on the other hand, has a very high stealth stat and can even sprint silently. It's a bad idea to hang around a Vanessa if you're AJ. Tommy Jarvis Tinfoil Papercut posted:Tommy was the best counselor we ever had until he was caught in the cemetery after-hours and suspected of Necrophilia. Yes, he lives nearby - why do you ask? He's also a good reason to stay in-game once you die. Note: You cannot call Tommy if the power is out to the camp with the radio. The police phone will always work regardless of the power situation, so long as you have the fuse. Counselor Tinfoil's Survival Guide Tinfoil Papercut posted:We're hosed.
Gameplay: JASON Tinfoil Papercut posted:Oh wait, it looks like I was Jason after all! Time to kill all of you while I breath heavily into my microphone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=demRSZuTZjc Victory Conditions: I'll give you three guesses, but you'll only need one. JASON abilities Jasons abilities will unlock as the game goes on. As a general rule, they also become more potent and the cooldown decreases as the game goes on as well. Different Jasons may have shorter / longer cooldowns or more / less potency on these abilities as well.
Your bread and butter detection skill. Any counselors within your "Sensable area" who have a sufficiently high fear level will light up like great big bags of red luminous meat, or at least the cabin they are in. Morph This ability lets you instantly teleport to an area on the map. It's not extremely accurate, however. It's used to get you to the general area. Also the first one to unlock! Shift Ahh the skill you will hear the most crying about. This lets Jason disappear and rapidly move around in first person view. He can easily catch up to running counselors, go into a cabin, or dart in front of a car. Fun! Once the game launches, please head over to or the official forums for dissertations on why this skill is OP and should be removed because people don't like dying in this game about dying. Stalk The last to unlock, this skill allows Jason to turn off the proximity music which alerts Counselors to him being nearby. Standing still allows the effect to last longer, while moving ends the skill much earlier. The most effective usage of this is to turn it on, morph to an area you know counselors are, then shift right up to them. They'll never know you're coming and is good for a grab kill or at least a pocketknife use. Rage (passive) About halfway through the game, Jason will enter RAGE MODE! Where he can break down doors and walls instantly. This skill applies automatically and requires no action from the player to toggle. Hit "E" on doors to instantly go through them. Note: there is a small animation, and a good counselor might be able to wind up a swing and bean you the moment you come through. The Jasons Tinfoil Papercut posted:Unfortunately for you, I picked one which can run. Tinfoil Papercut posted:Well kids, looks like we know the strengths and weaknesses of all the Jasons now! .....You're still going to play Vanessa, aren't you? *shakes head judgingly* Jason II
Tinfoil Papercut posted:A devious prick with the laziest headgear I've ever seen on a psychotic murderer. He's everywhere at once and good at flushing out those sneaky types. His slow shift speed is mad eup for by his mobility with running and morphing constantly. Jason III
Tinfoil Papercut posted:He's like a train: huge, powerful, unstoppable. But you can hear him coming a mile away and should be all set if you can stay out of his way. This Jason is the most dangerous in the hands of someone who just likes to go ham with LMB. BONUS SKIN! As a mea culpa for their awful servers, the developers released a retro NES skin for this Jason absolutely free. It also comes with a custom 8-bit proximity music track! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxKwn0czZgA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4UM4Fjll9M Jason VI
Tinfoil Papercut posted:Like that ex girlfriend who just won't leave you alone. He's one of the weaker Jasons, the throwing knives being not all that meaningful, especially once you have thick skin perk on a counselor Jason VII
Tinfoil Papercut posted:Don't let him near you - and for the love of god: Stay. Out. Of. The. Water. Other than that he's arguably the weakest Jason, as his mobility is very low. Jason VIII
Tinfoil Papercut posted:Wow, he really trashed this place. Don't worry I'm 100% sure he's moved on to the oth.....*blood gurgling sounds* The best Jason for breaking down doors. Use this one if you like to be fast in the water. My personal favorite. Jason IX
Tinfoil Papercut posted:SURPRISE! You're dead. A pubstomping monster, his main weakness is his vulnerability to kill attempts, which only works with incredibly coordinated groups, and even then not too often. Savini Jason
Tinfoil Papercut posted:Savini, a haiku by Tinfoil: Killing Tools Tinfoil Papercut posted:*Heavy Breathing*
All Jason's melee weapons are functionally similar. Hit people, they take damage. Hit them a lot, they die! Some Jasons can hit harder than others. Traps Not to be outdone by Mr. Macmillan - Jason can lay traps. Traps can only be placed outdoors. You can lay them very close to each other - sometimes even stack them up. Many, many good Jasons will lay traps at the phone. Some will lay all of them there. Throwing Knives Whip a throwing knife at your nearby Counselor and wound them! The beta was fun-ish, yeah. Good Jasons always camp the phone, which is what everyone defaulted to in the beta anyway. I'd ask about a potential "Jason X" Jason but the devs seem to be traditional horror fans. Which is confusing since Jason IX is in. Maybe not all the Jasons were noteworthy enough to get in?

May would be nice. I was in a Private Match with an Australian guy and a flamboyant homosexual from San Diego. In one round, I placed a bear trap by the police exit, near a choke point. After we escaped, the Australian guy (running from Jason) stepped right into it and got his crotch/neck chopped in half within sight of the police. He called us "wankers" as we laughed at him. The next game, Mr. Australia finds a shotgun and seeks me out to exact his revenge. He misses and hits the gay guy instead, who calls us "faggots" non-ironically. 10/10 - best multiplayer experience in my life.

Good OP, had the game on preorder since the Beta and loved it. It's not terribly designed like Dead by Daylight (which is a terrible game) but it was super rough around the edges. I hope they smooth everything out by release. Also, I hope they optimize the hell out of it because my laptop was going full tilt and the game doesn't even look that good graphically.

The beta was fun as hell despite the server issues. I like the fight you can fight back in a way but you'll get your rear end kicked in a prolonged fight.

I think the development objectives after beta are what you are hoping for - the core mechanics aside from Jason traps / knives are all the same. There were several times where the devs went into great technical detail about server issues and bugs, (The one where Jason would get stuck busting down a door forever) which left me with the impression they knew their poo poo on the programming end of things. I didn't notice any issues performance wise - but I didn't run on laptop so I can't really say. I'm running an i7 6700HQ and GTX 1060 so the game shouldn't have any issues running maxed out, but the Beta and Virtual Cabin both had my laptop working harder than Battlefield 1 does on Ultra. Also they really need to remove the AA or Tessellation they're using because everything looks like a muddy blur.

Yeah, friendly fire is the correct design decision imo. I'm concerned about deeper balancing issues, such as the woefully underdeveloped melee combat system. Combat stance was just... ugh, I'm not sure what they want the counselors to be able to actually do vs. Jason. Not much, which is how it should be, but then why is it even a thing. Shotgun to the face is the only attack with any real impact and all that does is buy the counselors a few seconds to run, pretty much most useful when he's exitcamping
|
# ? Apr 17, 2017 20:20 |

I wanna say combat stance is for people who want to take a chance at melee stunning Jason? I agree that if the aim is for counselors to always run from Jason that combat stance isn't a good idea. Though knowing how the game usually progresses assuming no quick police, Jason''s Rage probably makes him way more immune to anything not a shotgun.

Sea Sponge Run posted:this game sounds really rad The map featured in Beta had 4 named camps (Higgen's, Stillwater, Evergreen, and Blairs, I think?). Each camp had a power generator, as well as a chance for the phone or ham radio. Those were randomized as to which camp they are in, but the location at each camp was always the same if it was there. The requirement of the fuse item was added after beta, and this item always spawns in the same camp as the phone as well. For example: If the phone decides to spawn at Higgen's, it will always be at the big two-story house. The fuse will be somewhere in the house, or at the cabins which are part of the camp a bit to the north. I also can't stress enough how bad it is to flub the phone line repair. Any Jason worth his salt WILL stop what he is doing and come try to kill you. Sorry if the price is too steep for some of you, but I had at least 3x as much fun during the short beta than playing DbD. I would buy if it were 60. how did itemization and map distribution work in the beta? it strikes me that one of the skill ceilings in this game will be people memorizing where items and objectives spawn in relation to each other. this happened in DbD to some extent but the nature of that game made knowing where stuff was fairly unimportant outside of the black hatch that let you escape if you were the last one standing. strikes me that knowing the 25 places stuff can spawn in a specific cabin would be an extremely big deal in this game.
